In that situation, wonderboy, it's talking about school for the babysitter.  However, they don't actually leave your house when school starts.  I've gotten that same message many times and I just ignore it and the babysitter stays all day.
Okay, but then how do explain that when I've called the babysitter in the past, and it was a teen, I didn't get the message that they had to be somewhere?

Maybe it was a weekend and there was no school.

Possibly, I can't exactly remember, but this happened way more than just twice because my two sims were still relatively low in the law enforcement and medical careers, so they didn't have to work only on the weekends.

I'm crazy about my Simmie children.  I don't even lay them on the floor.  I've fired a few babysitters.  A good trick if you don't want your babysitter to play in your house all day and actually take care of your children is to turn the chairs backwards to the computer desks.  I've turned the TV off on them many of a time.  I've noticed if I keep a bookcase in the child's room with a chair the babysitter will sit in the room with the child.  They will jump up to take better care of them when they first start crying and play games/toys with them more.

I really enjoyed having the Sim babies and toddlers. I guess I was extra attentive to their needs during those stages because I wanted to pick as many of the traits for them that the game would allow when they aged up and also because I wasn't sure how much neglect would prompt the social worker from coming and taking them away.

Wow, those are really good tips! What I did the few times I hired a babysitter was I made sure all of her needs were attended to before the parents left for work, and it helped that she was potty trained already. Then, I just had her go play on the xylophone and the babysitter automatically went and played with the child. Within a few sessions, the toddler and the babysitter had max relationship!

What really great ideas kimmy...I will remember to turn chairs around and the tv will face the wall and etc...whenever I need to leave my children with the sitter. Thanks for sharing!

I agree that they are definitely better than the nannies in Sims 2. However, I still occasionally get a babysitter that does nothing. Once I had the parents out around town and the baby was at home, I ended up having to send one of the parents home to take care of the baby because so many of his needs were in orange and the babysitter wouldn't take care of him!

I don't know if the social worker will come when a babysitter is there, but I didn't really want to find out!

same happened to me. most of the babysitters are good though

I have yet to find a good babysitter they let them cry and by the time I get home the poor child is in a mess. They will feed them but that's it.

I have the learn traits faster rewards chatted with them they all are evil or mean.

I would not want someone like that watching my child. I have went through five baby sitters. They stay on the computer, watch TV or listen to music. While the babies needs are going to the red zone. Some of mine have even put the baby in the crib in the red zone. So I fired them and stay home gardening to make money.
So I have too many things for them to do from what I have read here.
I need to get rid of all the things they loved to do besides the thing they were hired to do: BABYSIT.  ;D

I must have had good luck with babysitters because I rarely had those kinds of problems.  However, I don't use them much anymore simply because I like for the parents to be around.  I'll have to do some testing on that and see what I can find.

Gia1594, It's worth the time it takes to turn tv's, computers and etc.. around to face the wall or put objects in front of them to block access for the babysitter. Don't give up on trying to find a good babysitter. I had to hire and fire several babysitters before I found a good one. I haven't had to block anything since I found him. Good luck!

You can always go to edit town and make a new, single sim with traits that are appropriate for a babysitter. (Family-Ordinated, Childish, Friendly, etc) Then, you merge the sim into your household. Now you have a live in babysitter! Just make sure you put the babysitter's bed in the baby's room...this way the parents don't have to wake up. :)

The thing about live in 'servants' is they take up space in your household, you also have to spend money to feed and have them a place to sleep. But I supose they are better than an ordinary baby-siter! Well the teens are one thousand times better than the old grandma's in Sims 2!
