Something rotten in testing cheats
« on: June 13, 2011, 07:11:16 PM »
OKAY, I found the command.ini file in ....\...\...\ etc as directed became administrator and changed it to R/W.
changed testingcheats=0 to testingcheats=1 saved and exited administrator
then logged in as me. I looked at the file and found

testingcheats=1

in the file

Started the game and tried the testing cheats... Nothing no errors but no actions as a result of the cheats either. What am I missing

I'm running on windows vista with SimsM 1.3.?? .something .1 maybe

Any ideas??

More info.  After making the change and checking it was changed. I ran the game still  no testingcheats.
I looked at the file again and found
testingcheats=0

Is there some secret trick to getting a RD_Only file in vista to be W/R?

Or is this file being reloaded somehow??

I did notice that the SimsM dvd was in the drive could it be rereading the File at startup???

i'm really beginning to HATE :'( windows Vista

I use a Mac most of the time these days and it obeys me when I ask it to do something but I have had my share of battles with Vista. >:(  You probably need Admin access to change that file.  You may be able to do it by right clicking on the file - select Properties and take it from there.

I can truly sympathise Nick. Unfortunately I've already been in trouble once before for Vista-bashing, so I can't suggest an alternative (that got me in trouble too lol). I do hope you find a solution though. You could try the EA forum - there is some fairly extensive advice there.

My guess is that you're trying to edit the file while it's still in the normal folder.  Windows won't let you permanently change a file if it's located anywhere in a /Program Files directory.  Copy it to your desktop, and THEN change it.  Once you've saved it, copy it back into the folder, and 'replace' the new one with the old one.

there are a few site out there that distribute a pre-changes and tested file, though not sure if that could fix it or not..
I use a mac as well, so I just changed the file and saved it, as it wasn't locked/read-write only...
