Making custom maternity clothes question

I'd like to make a custom maternity outfit.
Do I need to recolor a maternity outfit, then upload said recolor to the Swap Shop?

Yes, all the Maternity Outfits in the Swap Shop already are just recolours of the Clothes that Pregnant Sims wear.

So for the Maternity wear that is shirt and shorts/skirts (as in, not an outfit, but separate a separate pair of shirts and shorts), you'd need to track down both pairs of clothing?
