Reading to Toddlers
« on: January 21, 2010, 01:46:37 PM »
I know this one is probably very easy to do, but I have a toddler and I've tried to click on him, or I have tried with the mom and dad to click on a bookshelf to read to my toddler, but to no avail.

Do you have the toddler books from the bookstore?  Those are the only books that can be read to them.

yeah I went to the bookstore and got Bella and one other children's book.  I put them in the bookshelf as well as in the parents inventory and still no luck.

Bella is a child's book, not a toddler book.  Give me a few minutes and I will get the titles of all the toddler books for you.

Jimmy Sprocket and the Squishy Stone
Bluish Eggs with a Side of Pastrami
Counting for Those Who Cannot
Finger Painting 101
Handprints of the Masters
Jimmy Sprocket and the Chalice of Lichens
Squares Are Not Triangles
Frank I'm Not
Oh the Destinations You'll Briefly Visit
Don't Stay Within the lines
Jimmy Sprocket and the Escape from "Fun" Land
Being Smart for Fun and Profit

All of these books will be found at the bookstore under Childhood Development.  The only ones that will not help with future childhood development are the Jimmy Sprocket books (3).

You can also read these same books to your toddler at the library for free.  In Sun Valley, the bookshelf with the toddler books is in the nursery section of the library.  They fly through these books at the library, too.  It only takes a couple of minutes to finish one.

You don't even have to read them the books.  If you place them on the floor like the pegs and the xylophone they will read them by themselves, and skill that way.  You just have to make sure that you don't have a neat sim or a maid around, because they will put the books away.

I think you have to have a parent read that book to the toddler first, before the toddler can read it on his/her own.

No, the toddlers can read all the books the first time on their own if you own the books.

Can they do the same at the library?

I need to check on that, actually.  They can't get them directly from the bookcase, but I don't know if maybe an adult can pull the book and put it on the floor for the toddler.  I've got a house with toddler triplets right now, so I'll try it.

Edit:  No, they can't read at the library by themselves.  The books won't come out of the bookcase to go on the floor and the toddler has no interactions with it, either.  Adult has to read them.

Having the adults take the time to read to the toddler builds up the relationship bar quickly, as well as the time they take to play with them with their toys.

I guess I'd buy them and put them on the floor at the library if mom or pop need to be there anyway and guarantee the child is doing something productive. Of course as well as to receive the faster reading bonus.

I got my teenager Matthew Grady to read to my toddler Jaden Grady, I think it was pretty cute.
