Really quick way to paint (and I mean QUICK)
« on: January 21, 2010, 06:12:52 AM »
Just joined up to share this piece of information.  Whether it's a glitch on my game, or it's true for all, you guys can only check out.

I have made over $2,500,000 by painting.  I finished the opportunity of painting 15 paintings for the state in less than a day on Sims.  I'm surprised that it's not already on the guide, so it might just be me.

But basically, have your sim start any painting.  As soon as there is something on the canvas, cancel the action.  Then start painting again - you should see the next stage of the painting come up straight away (i.e. more on the canvas), cancel the action and start painting again.  Repeat until the painting is finished.

Please let me know if this works for anyone else. :)

This of course, is not much use to anyone who is trying to learn the painting skill, as this is by far a very slow way to learn, but once you are of a certain skill, you can make bucket loads, as it takes the same amount of time to paint a large painting as a small one.

That's really interesting, Mirtrione. Sounds eerily similar to the pretty well-known guitar compositions exploit I've shared on the forum involving canceling cues.

If both of yours works, we'll have to start calling all skill-glitch/bugs-exploits for Metro-Mirtrione cheats! ;)

Well, from I'm sitting if you're not actually activating the cheat window, then it's not a cheat. That said, they're both huge exploits (haven't tried out the painting one, but it is enticing).

Come to think of it, I had noticed this, but I hadn't been paying much attention. What I'd noticed was that my painters would often stop (due to needs or babies or something inconsequential like that) one stage before finishing. When I had them start up again, they would have already completed the painting at that moment, but what I paid attention to was that they'd keep painting and the queue bar would never get any fuller, which was really annoying.

Very interesting and very cool.

Is this such a crazy good exploit that it will have to be banned from challenges?

I'm really hypersensitive to exploits now that current challenges all go towards the world ranking and the 2010 Tournament season. I don't think either the guitar or the painting one really affect either current (I'm calling the nectar tourney current) challenge. For the old challenges, who cares? You can't cheat, as always. But, I really don't care about exploits in the old ones.

One challenge idea I've had for awhile is an "Artistic Trinity" involving painting, writing, and guitar playing. Might be a multi-generational thing. So, in something like that, there would need to be strict guidelines — i.e. compositions would have to be played in their entirety, etc.

This happens in my game. With mine though, if they stop painting for whatever reason and come back to it later it will go to the next level but they could paint for days and nothing else would change. Does that happen in your game too?

I'm not sure if they used to be able to use that exploit, but I do know that the other glitch I have (no progress painting) didn't use to happen. I think it's because of a patch or from WA.

It is definitely a great way to make money fast! You can make large paintings in a manner of minutes! I try not to use it in challenges that involve making money, but otherwise it is a big help to my game. :)

I've seen the same thing, making three confirmations.  If you do the start-stop-start until the painting is finished, unless you stop your Sim from painting the painting will NEVER be finished.

Definitely an exploit, in my book.  I'd prefer to have it banned from challenges where money is either a score factor or other factors in the challenge are heavily dependent on money (buying expensive nectar making machines, etc...)

It will be. But, not in the nectar tourney. Anyone who puts in the time to raise their painting skill to where there would actually BE an exploit would be taking gobs of time away from what they should really be doing and cutting their own throat.

Don't forget about Photography, that's artistic too!   ;)

Not until EA works out the kinks. The last thing I want in a challenge is someone saying, "I can't take a picture of the Theatre!"

Oh alright, I guess that makes sense.  I haven't tried photography yet myself, it just sounded like it would fit nice into that type of challenge.

It would. No doubt. If you ask me I think Photographer's Eye was unnecessary. A bonus to learning the photography skill could have simply been coded into the Artistic trait. And what may have been nicer is a 20-30k lifetime happiness reward on par with the writing and painting ones to earn more money at photography.

I tested the painting thing this weekend.  It works as reported.  And man, is it enticing.  Instead of watching a sim do their thing on a large canvas it's "click paint, stop, continue, stop, continue, stop, continue, stop, continue, done!"  Takes less than an hour of game time to do, I think.  Feels so wrong, but works so well!

I think this might be harder to enforce on tourney challenges because of how long it takes to paint a large.  Before I knew about this exploit, my sims would often stop painting anyways because of hunger, exhaustion, or the random booty call (who could blame them!)  I guess the rule could be that if the sim stops for any reason, you have to scrap the painting.  That could be pretty painful though!
