New bugs for the bug collection (and I don't mean insects)
« on: June 08, 2011, 06:46:15 PM »
Here I am, once again with another bug I've seen in my game and this one has probably messed up my entire save file this time. To avoid using words that are not allowed because of the forum rules but who could describe my feelings about this much better than I could in 'gentle' words I will just describe what happened. And I can be short in that.

My babysim Alexis was about to grow up so I threw a birthday party for her. When everyone arrived it was time for the mom to take the baby out of her cradle to blow out some candles. I've noticed before that for some reason that mother sim Alisia couldn't click on other sims anymore to use actions on them.
So I've clicked on the cake to give her the option to blow out the candles. She didn't. She stood still and put Alexis on the ground.
So I've quit without saving, but I already had saved during the beginning of the bug because when I came back in game all pictures of the sims in the family were green without showing the face of the sims, they weren't selectable, the didn't move either, except for Max Sims. Maybe he is bug free? Who knows.

Anyway, while trying to right click on a sim to select him the game simply quit me back to the desktop.
So once again I find my multi-generation sims completely messed up again and I really am sick and tired and all of that stuff in putting another 6 hours to find a way to get around this bug. And I know that you all probably just like as with the previous bugs don't know the answer so I will just stop typing here. If you have the same bug as I have than I only can say: 'Sorry, your family is messed up from now on. Start a new one, or load a backup, if you have one.'

I think I will find a new hobby for a little while. In the meantime I hope Electronic Arts will put some serious time in fixing bugs. Will it be realistic for me if I stay positive and think they will?

Sorry it's gotten to this point for you, Leto. :( I certainly do not blame you for taking a hiatus from the game. I've had serious thoughts about pulling the plug on the entire Tournament several times simply because of the rampant bugs. They effect lots of players and for whatever reason, other players slip through the cracks untouched.

Yeah, I really understand where you're coming from on this, Leto.  Personally, I haven't had a lot of bugs lately, touch wood, but it is so incredibly frustrating when you put in a lot of work only to find it destroyed because of something that is not your fault.  I hope the problems will be fixed soon, but when one looks at how long certain bugs have been around, it's hard to be optimistic about a quick fix.

That is much worse than what is happening to me
Since I installed the new patch: Architectural jobs no longer appear and same thing with adventures If I wait too long to save (like 2 minutes of game play) the game quits when I do try to save and quits when I pause the game.

Oh and I get endless messages to "share this memory"

Oh, man. I hate those! Lol. And the phone calls every 5 minutes to do the Celebrity Body opportunity. Hahaha.

I've never had any of those messages.  Could it be because I turned off the memory notifications?

Are you kidding me? I get that too. It's seriously starting to drive me nuts. It's like my child had his first day of school twice.

The new Generations outfits (particularly the T-Shirts for teens-elderly Sims), are very third partyish. In CAS, my teens and adults are getting the "broken neck" from those shirts.  :-\

I'm sure EA is going to (or they better) fix something in those games. The outfits are not well meshed, and they look like the forbidden content.

I know better than to expect a lot, but I'm at least hoping they fix whatever is wrong with the photography skill so I can download the patch at least.

I feel the same way.  I am getting so tired of starting new games, new towns to try to get my Sims to function properly and they don't . It shuts down to the desktop during CAS, trying to add furnishings, clicking on a memory, Exception Raised errors or just playing longer than 15 minutes.  It has really gotten to the point when I see a new patch I cringe.  I just know it'll be a headache all over again.  This game has become more of a chore now than fun.   I have spent more time in the last few days looking for ways to resolve these issues but more and more start happening.
Wishful thinking that maybe EA will resolve these errors sooner than later - if they get resolved at all.

So far I have had one member of a pre-Generations/patch family with a green block instead of their face and I could not do any interactions with her but she was there in the basement just ice sculpting away.  ResetSim didn't work and she was no longer in the family tree :(.  I had all green faces in another game that I was on the 6th generation with, so to me that was a tragic loss.

The photography bug hit my photographer for Metro's challenge.  She was doing so well until I installed the patch and Generations.  She can still take pictures in her home town but nothing while traveling which I still needed for her to do :(.

I turned off my memory notifications but noticed last night that the memories are still made and they appear in their scrapbooks, just not shared to Facebook and my Sims 3 page.  At least that isn't too bad but I am tired of the dinging noises and the memory thought icons showing up.

I redid all of my DEP settings and downloaded the new ORIGIN download manager as soon as I installed the patch and Generations, so (** knock on wood) I have not had the crashing problems.

I just wonder what I am going to discover wrong next.

How did this topic turns into the memory notification messages?

Anyway, all these bugs are partly the reason I won't even dare to dive into one of Metro's indeph challenges. I've heard already from Esther how hard it will be to do them with bugs. It also drags my attention away from working further on video tutorials because avoiding bugs (forget fixing, just forget it) takes up too much time. So now I will drop the game for a little while I perhaps can focus more on working on tutorials. It saves up a lot of time, that's the only positive aspect I can come up with. :)

I understand that you're terribly frustrated, Leto.  But I have to say...  your first post in this topic was in very close to perfect English.  Good job.

For everyone else, we've all got frustrations about the game.  But please don't let this turn into a bashing thread for EA.  It doesn't accomplish anything and it sets a negative tone.  Yes, the game is very buggy, but we do the best we can and share our knowledge here.  At least you're not alone.  :)

I "collected" this bug last night  :'(. My decadynasty heir was one day from young adult and mom and dad started to bounce out of their bed.  I thought it was the bed so I sold it and bought another one.  I didn't realize they weren't interacting with other sims till the next sim morning.  By then it was too late though.  I quit the game, after saving, as per the rules.  When I started this morning mom, dad, and little brother were all greened out, not selectable and my heir couldn't interact with them.  The only one she can interact with is her imaginary friend, and he just annoys her  ::).  Decadynasty is my first go at a challenge so I am going to start over.  I have been pretty lucky with the bugs so far in this game so I do have a question.  Have any of you noticed if this is likely to happen repeatedly once you get the bug? Or is it more random, meaning I might get lucky?

It's not my intention to bash the game and I apologize if I sound like a complainer.  The game has  been a part of my life for so long, yet the recent frustrations have me thinking I'll take a break too.  By mentioning my game problems I'm hoping somebody  will have a solution.
Now I know I can turn off the memories thing and that is a big help.  I'm also holding off buying Generations after reading about the bugs, so that helps too.

If that isn't allowed. I will no longer post things that are perceived as negative.
