Parents did not return from "Free Vacation"
« on: June 05, 2011, 03:29:30 PM »
The parents of my teen Sim just got the offer of a Free Vacation (aka ruse to get the folks out of the house so the teen can go wild). They accepted and off they went. My teen didn't have a party but they got a message a day later saying that the parents were on their way back and the house had better not be messy.

...except they never came back. They stayed grayed out with a message "on vacation" when I hovered the mouse over them. I've tried resetting them but no luck. I tried to evict the household and move them back in and still nothing.

This could possibly be a glitch. :-\
Try waiting for another sim day to pass.

I really hope so TallStar. This poor family's had the worst luck so far. The day before they got their free vacation offer a meteor hit their backyard and wiped out all their patio furniture and half their garden!

I bet wherever the parents are now they're wishing they'd just sent the kid to Military School!

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the meteor resulted in some bizarre AI/coding glitch. The game may think the parents are dead, yet...not dead. Lol. Who knows?

Did you try resetting them?

I had this glitch, the parents did not return in like a sim week. My 3 teens enjoyed it alot, they went wild in Bridgeport. I couldn't do anything but wait.

Can the parents age while they are on the trip? If so, maybe they died.

Maybe it was aliens.  :P

Anyway, just wait for a few more sim days and then the game will set right. If not, you will probably have go back to the last saved game that was before the parents went on vacation.

This same glitch has happened to me twice now. Once in Twinbrook and the other in Riverview. The only solution for me was to go back to a previous save. I am not going to let my Sim parents accept anymore free vacation offers because of this glitch. So annoying...

Sometimes changing neighborhoods help. I just fixed an invisible sim in China by doing that. Maybe you shoud try saving them to your library and then creating a new file and moving them in again. It can be the same town though, it's just a new file. Keep in mind you will probably lose your sims' reationships by doing this, though... but that's better than losing the parents, I think. Good luck!
