Placing community lots on Edit Map.
« on: June 05, 2011, 01:54:29 PM »
Okay so, I click on edit town, I make a 60x60 residential lot into a community lot, I go to the library and select a 60x60 Night club from late Night, when I click it the 'community' lot I just made disappears so I can't put it on there?

I can only put it down if i delete a 60x60 community lot thats already in my town?

Am I doing something wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong, you're just forgetting a step.
Once you place the lot, click on it. Choose to change the lot type. Then change it to fit the description of what you're placing.
For example: if you want to place a sports bar, change the lot type to sports bar.
I hope that helps. :)

As long as that's the type of bar your putting in, then yes.

Along similar lines, I changed one of the lots to be the respective community type (A Dance Club) however when I went to place the dance club the lot dissapeared from the map view, meaning it wasn't available. Any ideas why this would happen? Could it be that the lot was too big for the venue (60x60 lot)?

No, I've never seen a lot that was too big and thus wouldn't allow placement.  Even lots that are too small still show up, they're just grayed out.  The only thing I can think of is that the type of bar you chose may not really be what you think it is.  Is it a community lot that is pre-made in the game?  Maybe someone knows it and what it's classified as.

When trying to place residential lot, smaller lots are greyed out, but when trying to place comunity lots, smaller lots dissapear.
Reason for this issue you have is most likely that you need 64x64 lot (you can see the size of lot in bin you are trying to place while in edit town, I'm saying this because there is no premade LN bar that is 60x60).
And you don't need to chose exactly the same comunity type if you are placing bar from bin, you can chose anything, for example, if you chose pool and place Plasma lounge, game will authomatically change it to vampire lounge type.

Thanks for that clarification, Anushka.  I wasn't aware of that distinction.

Until I open up my game tonight I can't remember the exact name of the club, but it's the premade club that you find in your bin. And it is a lot smaller than the 60x60 lot. I believe it's around the 37x46 (or something weird like that). Anyhow, definitely smaller than 60x60. And in the title it had Dance Club. So no idea why it wouldn't accept the change of residential status to community.

@malteser, is lot empty? How the icon look? (It may look empty but if Sim was placed there then evicted, game consider it as home, even if nothing was bought or built on it).
Lot would never be considered too big, only too small, so that is not the problem, but I really don't know what else might be a problem.
Can you change other lots?

@CSquared you're welcome, I didn't know it's different neither, until in one tread Pam said that for residential lots option is greyed if lot is smaller, I usually place comunity lots so I didn't know about it.

The Grind Dance Club is the one you're referring to, I believe.   The Grind is 30x40; I tried myself just now placing it on a 30x40 lot that had formerly been residential but which I had changed to a community dance club classification.  It worked without any trouble.   If nothing else, you may want to try bulldozing the lot to get rid of anything that may be on it and replacing it with an empty lot of the same size.

I haven't tried bulldozing it, that's an idea. Unfortunately I never got a chance to load up my game last night. However the lot is the 15, Summerhill(?) one, the one that you use when starting a legacy.

Not that you should have to use it anywhere other than exactly where you want to, but I used the lot next to Agnes Crumplebottom's home, further up the hill.  That same club is located there in my regular Sunset Valley as well as in my little test and has always done fine.
