The Generations Patch - do we need it to play?

I have a two part question.
1. If I do not download the Generations patch at the time of install, will I be able to play the game?
2. Can someone point me in the direction for the patch for the Base Game that introduces the Generations features? I can't find it anywhere!

I can answer question one.
I had no problems playing Generations, and I don't have the patch installed. The only thing I have encountered is an uncooperative launcher, and I haven't heard anybody else having this problem. It was easily fixed, anyway.

I heard that patch is the one you get when you have Generations. I do not have Generations. I heard that if you download patch 1.22, you will/might screw up your game if you don't have Generations.
I'll rephrase question 2: Can anyone point me in the direction of patch 1.21.123, which Carl talked about, but I can't find?

1.22 worked absolutely fine for me, glad I didn't know there was a problem with it when I updated.

I wont have Generations untill Tuesday but I already downloaded the new patch and when I went to play I noticed that now when my fun bar fills up I am only "Having A Blast" for 50mins (sim time) instead of the usual 8 hours, but I still get "Entertained" and "stressed" as normal

Patch 1.22 isn't a bad patch... It turns out it only messes up your game if you try to bypass the launcher with an old .exe application. I use the launcher, so therefore it's safe for me. That's what I heard, at least.

Now, I have the Generations patch. If/when I get Generations, will I need to re-download this patch?

Your game will notify you if you need to install anything when the time comes.

I bypass the launcher and didn't change it when I got the patch still no problem. Thank Goodness nothing happened.
