To be honest this is one expansion pack I am not that bothered about getting. My daughter however is beyond excited about it.
Of course saying that it could turn out to be better then I am expecting I remember being so excited about late night and ultimately being slightly disappointed with it so you never know.

I don't know, I think this might actually be one of those upgraded things to an old EP. I have noticed between Sims 2 and Sims 3, things will always be rehashed, but upgraded, never simply rehashed. This is the first time EA took an expansion pack of the same name, but I really don't think there's any other name you could come up with other than Pets. I really am not bothered by the rehashing and keeping the Pets name because it's a plain and simple concept. The unicorn, and the being able to control pets, and give them their own personalities, is a huge plus in my opinion. As a real life pet person, I think Pets in real life have their own unique personalities, and I'm happy EA decided to take an old popular EP and take it up to the next level. People have been giving their hate speeches and rudely demanding for pets since the beginning of time, (not here obviously, but on the official Sims 3 forum, and Facebook). Being able to adopt pets and take them in is an even bigger upgrade as well.

Overall, I'm fully on board with Sims 3 Pets, as Sims 2 Pets was my favorite Sims game of all time, and with the upgrade of being able to control the pets, instead of making cats simply for show, that makes Pets even better. EA even let us pick out the names of the statues, which means EA is putting us (the fans) into consideration. People are always going to complain to EA about something, because the game is very unstable as is, and people just have nothing better to do but complain, however, I'm simply happy with the Sims 3 upgrades EA is giving us with Pets.

From the looks of the trailer, I'm excited to see that cats are able to lay on their backs (the "Lazy" cat, is a spitting image of my adopted son), because that means in real life, a sign of trust. Pets are actually bonding with their owners, too, and treated like part of the family, not just decoration. Fingers crossed EA is fully taking their time on Beta testing, before actually releasing it. The unicorn simply looks amazing.

News Flash (in case it hasn't been mentioned yet) - Amazon.com has The Sims 3 Pets: Prima Official Game Guide listed for $13.59 US.  Click here to learn more.  Not sure if other countries can purchase the guide or not, plus I can't find the game guide on Prima's official site which slightly worries me.

Thanks for posting this, mtglady!  I always buy the guides so was hoping there would be one for Pets.  I just checked at Amazon.ca (the Canadian site) and they have it too.  I see it's written by a different author than the previous guides.

I'm suddenly curious, if it is not one of the breeds for horses avaiable, I wonder if you can create a zebra for a horse.  Doesn't seem like it would be too hard to give them a striped patterning.  I just can't wait to give my sims their cat(s).  And I can start crafting my idea for a pets themed challenge proposal.

I assume you can make kind of a zebra that way. Nice idea actually. :)

Question about Pets expansion pack
« Reply #591 on: September 03, 2011, 10:54:12 PM »
Does anyone know if EA has said anything about new jobs in the Pets expansion? It would be really cool if there was a veterinarian job or something like that.

I'm not sure, but I think we already have a topic for the pets EP.

I haven't heard anything about new jobs. But there are new ways to make money: dog/sim can perform tricks, and horse/sim can do jumping and things like that. And I think cats (and dogs?) can hunt and bring you items.

I heard that there would be a horse-wrangling job. If I can keep my dynasty going, I may try for an immortal supermaxing horseback-riding, with a relevant career and all. Maybe in place of my martial artist, since I'm worried about travel bugs.

I'll have to start searching for a place to keep horses. Everyone in my family rides (I haven't since hurting my back).

It looks like we will be able to build our own Stables, and I think they stay on the Home Lot I think.

Yes, it was mentioned in one of the links on this thread--I can't remember which, there are so many good links.

I believe only cats can hunt. It would be cool if they set up a vet profession and you could visit other people's houses and give their pets vaccinations or something. I don't think they have anything like that, though because from what I've read, the worst thing that seems to happen to your animals (besides old age death) is fleas, and you have to give them a medicated bath for it.
