How does dating work? My 2 sims are married but they wanted to go on a date so I had one sim ask the other one out and they went to a movie and dinner and then watched the stars (then they went to bed) but neither of them had the date wish fulfilled - what did I do wrong?

I've tried this but with 2 teenagers from different families. I can only think that you have to end the date before they return home.

This is tricky. But, I found out that you can only go on a date at certain venues.

What you do is create a date the same way you'd visit a lot with someone. So, you ask the person on a date. Then, once they agree, go to the community lot screen and select a venue. The movies, bistro, and places like that are not dates. It has to be more communal, and I think not a rabbit hole. It has to be a place like the pools, gym, art gallery, parks. This is because you have to be able to control what happens on the date for it to be a good one. So, no rabbit hole spots for a date.

I think that's it. It worked for me last night.

I took two Sims that had just started.  They were in a group but as soon as I made them do any romantic interactions - it turned into a date.   I had them go to the movies and afterwards we ended the date and they loved it!  Both Sims actually rolled wishes to go on a second date with the other one.

When I selected the move it said 'see movie with date' - same with the bistro, 'eat here with date'

I don't have Generations yet, but I'm pretty sure the action 'see movie with date' is a standard option. It means going with someone to see the movies (of course) but it is a misunderstanding now you can take the word 'date' different after your Generation installation. I think that why you thought your sims where on the kind of date you wanted them to be.

I'm pretty sure you can date anywhere. To end a date and complete the wish one of the sims must do the interaction "ask to leave date". If the two whoohoo at the end it's almost always great. Tip: If you just go to one rabbit hole and then end it, the date will flop and the box will say you didn't do much together.

I just got Generations today. However, yesterday I updated my game and had "Ask out on date" for my longtime married sims. So they went on a date dancing and after ending the date, she had a wish to have a second date. Howevr, there was no date fulfilled moodlet.
I'm going to start another game now that I have Generations.
