OK, so I decided to give writing a story a shot. I've played with some Legacy and Dynasty stuff and I figured I'd have some fun.

I like the underutilized Barnacle Bay since I'm actually sick of Sunset Valley after all the challenges. I decided to start with Jake and Josephine Coastal and see where that took me. Let me know what you think!

Meet Jake and Josephine Coastal. He's a genius, bookworm, never nude, angler who loves the outdoors. His lifetime wish is to be an Illustrious Author. She wants to be a Gold digger. She's a frugal, unlucky, vegetarian, hydrophobe who also loves the outdoors. I decided to continue the loves the outdoors trait through the 10 generations as my theme. And something tells me I'm spending about 30,000 points to change her traits and LTW.

Josephine looks fine to me for now, so only minor clothing changes were done.

Jake on the other hand needed new hair. I don't think I could stand this one for long:

So he got this:

When they aren't at work (Jake at the diner and Josephine at the business office), they spend almost all their time in the garden:

Almost:

Yes - I did some minor remodeling. I don't know if the new patch has fixed the bed bug, but I always use Sleep Slave beds to avoid it. Yes, I'm getting sick of looking at the same bed all the time.

And, right on time for a day 10 birth:

Please welcome Aberdeen Coastal!

Great start...I almost started with these two as well, but ended up going with Fiona Fleet.

Taking time off of work allowed Jake and Josephine to work on skills and friendships.
Jake heard about these potions that did wonderful things to you so he bought a chemistry table and went to work:

Of course, taking care of Aberdeen takes precedence, even if he tried to blow himself up:

Jacqueline hates to clean so she started upgrading all the appliances she could:

Finally (at least for the Watcher), Aberdeen's birthday came. Of course, I didn't get pics of all the friends and coworkers who showed up.

OK, for two parents that the Watcher is not too enamored of in the looks department, this kid turned out cute. Let's see if he keeps it up:

Of course there wasn't a lot of money going around, so Jake and Jacqueline's beloved exercise room was converted into a temporary nursery - thus the lack of new decor:

With Generations, you can read the toddler to bed with a skill book. Gotta love multi-tasking!

Speaking of lack of funds, would that be the reason Jake is chatting up his fried Dude LaMer?

Thanks, Gogowars!
I was trying to get Dude to move in for his cash, since he starts with a good amount. Turns out he had moved in with another group and had no cash.

Poor Jake, I feel bad for him.
And the false accusations are absolutely the worst part of being a celebrity.

And now I have a bug. All of the portrait panels except for Jake and Josephine are just green squares. I can't select any of the kids. I have several saves, but the only one that works takes me back 2 weeks and I'm going to lose the three new kids. If I redo this I'm going to power through with just Aberdeen. Frustrating, but that's the way the game goes.

OK, I'm going back a few weeks to a prior save to get past the bugs. I will be repeating Aberdeen's childhood and on. I may or may not produce any younger siblings for him this time through - that will be determined by my mood when I'm doing this. I think a one-day trip to Egypt for pomegranates managed to bork this, so I will hold off on travel for now. Maybe later in the dynasty - I just need them for my nectar supermax, planned for generation 4. And I hope to cut down on the false accusations for Jake this time through. We'll see if I'm feeling lucky...

I believe I haven't commented yet - shame on me for that. :-[

Awesome start, lvrugger! I love the choice of Barnacle Bay, especially the Coastals - one of my favorite premade families. Great job so far, good luck with the technical difficulties. I hope everything works out correctly - wishing luck! :D
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

Jake realizes that he will have to tutor young Aberdeen, so he goes to the library to skill:

Aberdeen ages up to teen and gets the usual awful outfit choice:

Jake and Josephine both roll wishes to have a child, and who am I to say no?

Jake ages up to elder while cooking:

Jake has a secret plan. What could he be doing?

Aberdeen is the best dressed at prom. Is it any wonder he won homecoming king?

Jake pulls Josephine away from caring for newborn baby Athens to give her a present:

Josephine drinks the present Jake gave her:

And now Josephine is young again!

Jake knows that he is now an elder. His one shot chance at youth was given to Josephine. He spends his time preparing the world to be a better place for his descendants, including stocking a pond with the Koi he caught in China:

Second child Athens had a quiet birthday and is yet another cute toddler for the Coastal family:

And poor Athens is left alone to skill by himself:

Aberdeen spends all his free time sculpting. This is him finsihing one of the sculpting challenges - the one requiring 5 of each type.

Aberdeen's young adult birthday comes and he's obviously happy about it:

The game picks some really bad outfits:

Seriously, pirate boots go with a square-cut speedo? I know he lives in Barnacle Bay, but that's a bit much!
But he didn't age into a bad look otherwise:
