Sims 3 Generations Guide Additions
« on: May 31, 2011, 11:28:14 PM »
Throughout this project, which I doubt will take very long, I'll be posting the new guide additions to a list here, rather than make a separate topic. You can submit your corrections in this topic too. This keeps the places I need to scour for info condensed into one area. But, of course, I'll read posts that will tell me a lot about how you're using the new features. For now we have updated:

Babies and Toddlers
Children
Teenagers
Adults
Pranks
Afterschool Activities
Boarding School List
Chemistry and Potion List
Imaginary Friend
Lifetime Rewards and Traits
CAS Sliders - Skin tone, Breast Size, Muscles
Daycare Profession

If anyone wants to support us on the official forum, you can do so in this thread, where I've started a topic to share new content with that community. I do this on every expansion, but it's always shocking how quickly posts fall to oblivion there.

This is a really minor correction, but you misspelled "use" in the potions guide.

Fixed. Also, I published Imaginary Friend. It's late so I bet there's a typo or two somewhere else in one of these. I'll proofread them tomorrow :)

Teenagers, Pranks, and Afterschool Activites added to the list. Pam is doing Day Care and Metro adults/midlife. It looks like the elderly will get their own page at last, with the few additions generations brought. This will be the fastest EP coverage we've done because there's just not that much that needs writing about :P Plenty of content to be sure, but it's not like I'd list every single new social added to the game, and little things like that. I've seen features like that as fairly useless to add. Generations will get its own entry page like those of the other 3 EPs. That will provide a solid summary of new stuff, and links to get readers to the info they want. I'm open to suggestions for article ideas.

Of course I know that the traits, lifetime rewards and a couple of other pages need updating. Right now, I'm publishing too fast to really bother to check for typos, but anything like that will be taken care of in the weeks ahead when I feel like devoting the time. Nothing has seen its final draft yet, and I will have to go through and tie many pages together, while filling in new information as it comes to me.

Hey Carl,
Might I suggest putting the different High School activities in a table, so one can quickly see which ones are on the same or different days?
And will you also look into the different boarding schools and their effects?

Someone could add information on Boarding School and what skills are learned at each one.

I just sent you my Mid-Life Crisis info after a couple hours of testing this morning, Carl. There really is not too much to say. It's a random event that happens at age up — I'm pretty sure it's not an after the fact deal of existing Adults. Anyway, the types of wishes my tester received I noted, but there's clearly many more, so I asked for the community to jump on the bandwagon and inform of us of more types of wishes and specifically what circumstances existed at the time.

One of my pre-existing Sims apparently attended the Military Academy and he now has the ability to salute.

One of my dynasty Sims was put into the School of Peace and Love and she can do a peace sign to people.

Also - the imaginary friend post there is a typo in this paragraph.

"If you can't accomplish bringing the doll to life in the childhood age, fear not. It will grow up along with your Sim at this point, and just gets bigger as a teenager. The perk to doing it earlier is getting control over the train selection."

I think you meant trait not train.

Thanks guys. Boarding schools will definitely come soon, and I realize I left out bedtime stories on the children's page. Anything that I left out, I'd like to be told. One problem for me with an expansion like this is that all of the features are buried on the menus, and aren't as in-your-face as Ambitions or Late Night.

EDIT: Oh, and I would absolutely love to know how you write a map to recover buried treasure from the sandbox :P

I added a link to the Daycare Profession piece I just finished for the Guide in Carl's first post of this thread. Thanks for publishing that, buddy. The pictures look nice by the way. Good job.

I've noticed Generations isn't under the expansion guides tab, is this on purpose? So it's a bit difficult to find as this is the first place one would look  ;)

It'll get a gateway in time for the weekend. Probably tomorrow, actually! For now all generations content is linked together, and accessible from the news bar at the top, and from the main page.

Edit: I finished the "tie it together" page for Generations

Edit: @Draigh: I'm sorry I didn't implement your suggestion when I did the boarding schools page. That's a good idea and I'll work it in soon.
