Okay so I should be getting my Generations tomorrow, but I heard of some problems with the new patch. I just wanted to know if I should wait to update my game? ???

I didn't want to make a new thread for this, but I want to ask: I know the game automatically patches when you install a new expansion pack, but when does the patch come out for the rest of us? I'm very eager to see the new base game features.   :)

The patch should already be out… I don't have the game yet but I can install the patch already.

They did warn people on simprograms to not download the patch before Generations.  Some had problems, some didn't.  Now who is to say the same thing might have happened anyway.  I just wanted to let people know what the site said.  I decided not to download it until I got Generations, so far, so good. :)

I'm much too poor to get any kind of expansion pack now, but nothing's been causing any problems so far. The only annoying thing with the patch is that a memory system is included, and my Sims' memories pop out and there's a huge 'Share on Facebook!' button. I feel awkward, it's almost like an advertisement.

I did have this problem, now that I think about it... My Sim got shooed out of work around noon (he's in the science career path), and when I looked over to see why he wasn't working, ALL of the people working in science were outside (i.e a bunch of people in lab coats). This wasn't a huge problem that was going to eat my game alive, but it was the only actual problem that I've had so far. That, and my heir gave birth to twins~

That doesn't seem too bad but it's kind of weird… The twins probably wasn't because of the patch though lol.  ;)

Another issue; my male Sims have manly chest hair now! Le gasp~!

That was a bit of a joke, but I'll be on the lookout for any further suspicious activity. -puts on secret agent mask-

Also, I've seen the shooed-from-work issue (but with my schoolkids, I found them all in the playground several times) before I installed the patch. I guess it's just a random bug?

Yeah, the getting shoed out of work and everyone standing there issue existed pre-generations. In fact its the issue I was hoping the patch would fix

I downloaded the patch earlier from a link on another website and played for about an hour with no problems.  I then installed Generations and still no problems as I have been playing non-stop for the past 3 hours.
I did fully copy my Sims 3 folder just in-casee something was buggy.  I also had to set my DEP for the new EP.

@Execution - I fully agree as I really don't like sharing things on Facebook.  I only started the account at the insistence of two of my grandsons.
Only good thing about sharing the memories is you are rewarded with items for your Sims like a bookcase, a bar-b-que and a new computer.  The more you share, the more rewards you will receive. ;D

If you have a Mac, you might want to wait, or at least be prepared to do some extra work. My daughter installed the patch on the game on our Mac, which resulted in the game refusing to launch. We'd try to open the program and the launch window would never appear.

It turns out that many Mac users are encountering this problem, whether they've installed Generations or not (we hadn't). Thankfully, someone posted a solution, which involves manually installing the patch on the base game.

If you're a Mac user with this problem, go to  http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/60/380002.page and look for the post by SimGuruBrent.

It takes a long time to download the file, which is more than 600 Mb, but the manual patching worked for us. It was quite a relief after not being able to even get to the launch screen.

Would you know what DVD version we use in Australia? I don't have generations yet, but I want to get ready just in case cause I use a mac. And can you just download the patch manually to fix it, or do you have to uninstall everything first so it's just the base game?

Hello Pallyndrome,

I've not followed the whole patching problems with Generations, so I can't answer your questions, but one.

To known what version you use, start the launcher, and look at the bootom left corner. You should see a row of small icons. The one greyed out are the EP/SP you don't have. Those in  bright colors are the ones installed on your computer. When you hover your move over each icon, a version number should appear: note them down precisely. This is what you'll need to know whih patch to download.

If I check my game version in the Launcher, I'll see 1.19.44.010002 for the base game, for instance. The last digit, '2', is the region of my game.
1 is for Americas, 2 for Worldwide, 3 for Asian, 5 for Japanese and 7 for Digital download.

Good luck!

EA has a notice about the new patch and you can see the information here.  This page also provides a link to the manual download.
This is the same download that I received from another site as I also downloaded this and saved it to my desktop to compare them.
