I've made a small pond for one of my sims.  It came with 3 types of fish (can't remember which but low level ones like minnows).  I stocked it with Alley Catfish, Angelfish and Deathfish and lost the fish it started with.  I think this is intentional so that you can choose your perfect combinations without the default choices getting in the way.  As far as I can tell the number of fish I can now get from the pond is unlimited but restricted to the 3 varieties I stocked it with.  I've read somewhere that the pond will never become a 'great' spot to fish in (no jumping fish) no matter how many times you stock it but it should be 'decent'.

I read a thread on creating worlds that explained how to create great fishing spots but it may be restricted to features in the CAW programme. Sorry I can't remember where but check the official forum and some of the CAW tutorials that people have posted there.

Hope this helps

The fish I'm going to do it with is the deathfish - I've never seen them jumping in SV or RV! I may do that with some foreign fish too.

If you use "buydebug" your pond will then be active and you have unlimited fish of whatever spawner you use.

I am at least able to have >5 own-stocked fishes in my own pond. One thing I have noticed is that before you stock your own pond, the 'investigate fish', or whatever the command is, tells you that you can fish all sort of fish from that spot without stocking it at all! However I believe this is a bug since there are just no fish there yet and I've been able to fish there for like an eternity without catching anything.

My theory about that is that the computer tells you what theoretical fishes you could catch there in different fishing spots if the pond would have been a natural one (i.e. in the case of one's own pond, a fresh-water system), so it would surprise me if you have actually lost fish in your pond by planting new ones. If you have, it is most likely a bug. ;)

You CAN stock deathfish in your pond, and the best part is that you can catch them at any time of day. I've made 20,000 in a day by catching 15 to 20 of them. It's a GREAT money maker.

I don't think you see Deathfish jumping because they are only in the graveyard, after midnight, with fog on the water.  No need for jumping in that situation.  I think the fog is the jumping substitute.

So if sfsfsfgiants has caught 15 - 20 in a day, that could indicate there is an unlimited supply of fish? I'll make another pond for Angel Fish!  ;D Now just gotta catch 10 of the dead slippery things!  :D

Yeah, for sure it is an unlimited amount of fish in a stocked pond.

My suggestion for you in stocking ponds is this (I had a fisherman who did this and made $500,000 easily).

1) Create a pond
2) Buy loads of cheese at the general store
3) Use your cheese to catch ten alley catfish and stock your pond with them
4) Catch a bunch of alley catfish from your pond
5) Use your alley catfish to catch ten angelfish and stock your pond with them
6) Catch a bunch of angelfish from your pond
7) Every night, catch three deathfish until you have ten of them and stock your pond with them

Now, assuming you have cheese, you never have to leave your house to make tons of money. Just make sure you have enough angelfish to catch your deathfish, and you can easily spend all day catching deathfish.

I love this because there is no time limit. And there is no catch limit. At the graveyard, you can only do it at the middle of the night and can only catch three per night.

Try this. Make so much money off it.

I have a stocked pond with angelfish, lobsters (good fertilizer), vampire fish and piranha (sp) and so far hasn't run out yet.  Sim and sim hubby are both anglers and while I was at another household, they must've fished themselves into a stupor.  There were 60-70 of each type above. :o  The grown kids in their family all live in the same area, so I can keep an eye on all of them.  :D  What peeves me is to see all kinds of townies fishing in their pond in their yard.  Must be a pretty good place to fish. :P

Supposedly there's a mod that will make the fish jump in your pond, but I certainly wouldn't recommend dl'ing it...just to see something pleasing while it could wreck your game. :-\

Thanks for the tip wild...I will go to buydebug and make sure fish don't run out. ;)

yep, I was definitely  :o

Brooke just kept stocking and stocking, and no, no fish jumping, but I can see them swimming in the water and that's enough for me.  ;D

Ok, I never knew that one could only catch 3 deathfish per night.  Good info!

Edit:  Just checked this out by taking my a sim to to the Riverview cemetary last night.  With a fishing skill of 10, he caught 6 deathfish.  Maybe the limit is set differently between the towns or something, but it does seem possible to catch more than 3 a night.

I catch an average of 5 Deathfish per night in Sunset Valley.

I'm also wondering if this unlimited fishing in your own pond is something new with the recent updates.  I recall that I had to put more and more fish into my pond before my Sims could successfully fish from it.  When I clicked on "Inspect Water," it was very low at first and slowly rose to being "decent."  Am I misunderstanding something here or are you really able to stock your pond only one time with 10 fish and then fish from it indefinitely for that kind of fish?

Pam, unless it has changed with the patches and WA, you could only catch what you stocked.  I am in the process of checking this out again, because in the Vanilla game that was how it was.

I haven't really done this very much because I'm not so into fishing, but I've done it with Pirahnas and a couple of other fish... I've never ever run out of fish. I've inspected different parts of the pond and not found the fish that I've stocked, I think, but they're always there where the fish are swimming around.
