Sims favorite music, food and color
« on: October 02, 2009, 12:55:21 PM »
I love the traits guide and have used it a lot when making new sims. Thanks to you Over Emotional is now my favorite trait!  :)

So how about a little guide to those favorite things and how they affect gameplay (or not?).

Music is cool, my over emotional sims are getting a +25 moodlet just from listening to their favorite music on a stereo costing 150! Listening to something else gives them +12.

Food I'm not so sure, I haven't played long enough. Does eating their favorite food make them enjoy it more or longer, are they better at cooking their favorite dish? What did you find?

And as for color, does it do anything at all?
I tried making a sims favorite color red and then decorating with lots of red things. It didn't seem to do anything except make me sick of looking at red things... :P

I'll get back with some testing on food a bit later. I'll do a little cheating and run an experiment.

We sure do know that music matters though, that's a definite.

I draw a blank on color. I have no idea what it does.

As for color, I'm pretty sure it's just a conversational topic. You occasionally see it over their heads when you use the "get to know" social. I'm not sure if it boosts relations if they match the color as matching traits do.

One thing for favorite food is that you can get an occasional "prepare favorite dish of girlfriend" wish. I believe that another feature is that there's a bigger chance that a Sim will automatically prepare his favorite food if the ingredients are available. Though this must be tested to be sure.

I found some information here that says using the specific color does give them a boost... but it has to be the specific hex code not just a shade of or close to.  I have not verified this information in game but wanted to point you to it as I am sure someone else want to check it out :)

Thanks for this!
I tried it out a little, I made a room in my sims favorite color and I just can't see that it does anything. :P
Maybe I need to test it some more.

Oh well, it's still nice to have the hex codes.

I heard/read that it gives a nicely decorated moodlet which I can't tell if the one they got was from the color or the fact they were living in a nicely decorated house. :P

That could be the problem, yeah. It's really hard to tell how those decorated moodlets add up.

I haven't seen any change in mood because of the favorite color, either.  I'm enjoying the hex codes, though!

I also read and realized that they clap and laugh when they eat their favorite food.  In retrospect, that should have been obvious.  Lol.

Yeah the only one I've noticed to make a huge impact is music. As I noticed writing from the traits guide, excitable Sims will get 'excited' when they eat their favorite meal, so it's very controllable to get the moodlet with that trait, and it can come from a simple autumn salad.

I used the hex codes for Seafoam to repaint a bedframe and dye the cover, living in my base 6x6 shack with 4$ walls and the bubbles flooring and the cheapest toilet, fridge, shower and counter(early in Legacy challenge) and had the Nicely decorated moodlet. I think it was the 8/3/5 single bed, and it definitely did not have this effect before it was repainted.

I've tried doing the clothing in the favorite colors, but no apparent effect yet.

I just played two Sims who both had turquoise as their favorite color.  I bathed the house with that hex code.  Floors, walls, furniture, appliances, cabinets, toilet, shower.  It was everywhere, but no Nicely Decorated moodlet showed up for either of them.  The house is now a three story twinkling turquoise beach house for an elderly Rock Star and his family.

Even if you did get a Decorated moodlet I'm not sure it would be worth it having to look at everything in the same color. Eeek! :D

It's not so bad, really.  I like having color themes anyway.   ;D
