Okay.

1. I opened Media Player.
2. I placed the song on my Now Playing playlist.
3. I ensured that my song was selected/highlighted.
4. I clicked File>Save as.
5. I went to enter the name I wanted - in this case: x.
6. I exited out of Media Player altogether, because the .mp3 extension was not available in the drop-down list of file types.
7. I checked Chronic's instructions.
Here is the entirety of his instructions:
Ah, I see.
You only have to change the .wav to .mp3. That is done by renaming the file.
8. I renamed the file from "x.wav" to "x.mp3" (Through "My Computer", not through Media Player).
9. I moved it into one custom music folder. It didn't work.
10. I restored the files I had earlier deleted in the Custom Music folder.
11. I placed "x.mp3" into both Custom Music folders.
12. The current issue (Song isn't recognised) happened.

I know for certain that it's only that song. My official dynasty founder has just been dancing at The Brightmore in Bridgeport.

Ok, then.  I think I've finally got an answer for you.  The problem is that you cannot simply change the extension of a song to .mp3 using My Computer or anything similar.  The computer will accept the change, but it doesn't actually change the format of the file.  If it's possible, you have to use the function of Windows Media Player to change the format of the song.  The drop down box is the way to do it, but I don't know why .mp3 didn't show up for you.  I can't really test it on my end at the moment because I don't have any songs that aren't .mp3.

Are you sure it won't change the format? I hovered over it, and it showed that it was in "mp3 format" or whatever it's called. Pretty much the same thing as the Custom Music that ships with the game.

I'm pretty sure.  Like I said before, the computer accepts the change and it looks like it's been done, but it doesn't change the actual format of the file in question to allow it to be played in the game.  I've tried doing that myself and I double checked with my technical minded husband, too.  There's a slight chance I'm wrong, but not much.

Wow. 40 MB is huge! How long is that song?! :o
The thing is, .mp3 format songs, if not exceeding 5 minutes, at best bit rate are maximum 10-14 MB. Such songs the game can handle and play. I believe the problem in this case is that the file is too big and the game can't read it.
By the way, how do you change the format of a song in Windows Media Player. I know it can be done by file converters, but I am not sure if such converters are legal.

The song is about 4:33.
And I probably won't use downloaded things - I don't trust any sites that offer downloadables (Except this forum and the official forum).

It's risky even to trust the official forum if you're talking about the Sims 3 Exchange.

Sorry, I meant the store. Especially since "Girl Doll Dressed" resurfaced a month or so ago.

It didn't resurface, it just continues spreading itself all the time. It is like a computer virus. In reality, it is just a very badly created third party custom content. Okay, going off-topic here.
