I've got a problem - No sound and an annoying Click noise
« on: May 19, 2011, 04:17:25 AM »
After finally converting a Christmas Carol of mine to mp3 format, I put it in the game. But when my sim went to listen to Custom Music, some problems occured.
First I was struck by the No Sound bug. I had no sound, whatsoever.
I restarted the game.
Everything worked fine. I started up Custom Music again.
This time, it was an annoying click-click sound, over and over and over again. >:(
I'm closing my game for a second time. I know this fixes the click-click sound, but I do not know if this is a problem with Custom Music. I followed PJSim's instructions and asked TheChronicR for some help converting the file (Legally, of course).
I have no Mods, and No CC. I only download items from the Sims Store (especially when Girl Doll Dressed is on the loose!).

EDIT: I forgot the question. :-[ What seems to be the problem here? I can probably provide more information if needed.

Let's see what happens after you restart the game again.

I had the same thing happen.  I had purchased a few songs from Amazon and put them in my custom music folder.  I went into the game and one song played, but when I clicked to go forward, I could see the music notes, but no sound.  When I went out of it and came back, then I could get two songs to play.  Eventually, all the songs started playing, it seemed sort of like a delayed type thing.  I didn't get the clicking sound, but on mine, it just took going back into the game a few times before all the songs started playing. :)

@Saltypaws The click sound doesn't happen during normal play. I had the game paused while turning the stereo on and switching it to custom music. I switched the game to normal speed, and a noise like the click you hear when you switch from pause mode to normal speed kept playing.

@Pam
I'm starting the game now. I would've done it last night, but I had to force shutdown my computer because it was acting up.

Also try turning off the stereo in the game and turning it back on.  That solves a lot of my music issues in the game.

I played the game with the first sim in the family bin.
It worked fine - until I switched the music to Custom. Just the sound of my Sim stepping on grass. >:(
I'm going to refer back to PJSim's instructions and check I'm doing this right.

EDIT:
To be totally sure I'm doing the right thing, I restored the songs in the Custom Music folder (In My Documents), and put the song I would like in both Custom Music folders.

My Custom Music is located at:  Documents/Electronic Arts/Sims 3/Custom Music

Are you using .mp3 music files?

Yes.
EDIT: That's the file path I'm using (Except I'm using XP, so it's My Documents)
I restored the music files that were already in there. I checked. All the music plays fine. But my song isn't in there.
I went to the options menu, into the menu tab, and in there was all the songs, including mine. When I hit preview, no music.

Did I convert the file correctly?
After PM'ing Chronic, I did precisely what he told me. I renamed the file "x.mp3", where x is the song name. (I won't mention the name as it isn't very family friendly. It's got profanity and insults to the singers, by the other singers.)
The music tab shows:
Song                           Artist
x                                Unknown
Do I need to assign an artist to the song?

So, this is one that you ripped from a CD and changed to .mp3 format?  Did you do this to any other songs and were they able to be played in the game?

No. I didn't rip it. I've had it from a CD for ages. I don't know how I got it on my computer.
And this is my very first piece of custom music.

As I told you in the PM, I think you should give up on that song. Is it a must to have it in your game? I think the file is damaged.
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

No, not a must have.
Is there a file size limit for .mp3 files in The Sims 3? This song is over 40,000 KB. If there isn't I'm going to agree with Chronic and say the file is damaged.

Ok, Seabody, let me see if I've finally gotten this right.  You had the song on your computer for a long time and you want to use it in your Sims 3 game as Custom Music.  It's in the wrong format for the game, so you used a program to rename the extension of the file to .mp3.  Did you use Windows Media Player to change the extension?  And in all of your tests, this particular song NEVER played in the game?

What exactly did you do in Windows Media Player to change the extension to .mp3?  I mean, step by step.
