Nectar aging
« on: January 13, 2010, 02:57:27 PM »
I did some testing today and there is a definite difference in aging between the two nectar racks. So, that cleared up one big thing for me. The other thing is still kind of up in the air. Is there an aging difference between different levels underground? I aged some nectar 2 floors below ground and could not get a aging difference compared to just a standard one floor below ground. Has anyone else tested this?

Yep I think I went up to 3 floors down and found the aging to be the same. I didn't get the % difference on the two racks but did also note the more expensive one is better.

Yeah, as noted in the Guide, the good one adds 10% to base value. The closest I can figure is the cheapest one adds only 5%. That's an enormous difference when you're talking about Life Fruit/Pomegranate bottles worth 500+ each. Are you tourney players reading this?

Yes, I have tried different levels (not to a great extent though) and got an unusual result. I built down as far as I could and placed one bottle on the first level, then one on each level below. I didn't have enough bottles for all the levels, so I skipped the second level down. I left the bottles for a few sim weeks and when I returned to see their value, all the lower level ones were valued (not sure of the exact value) at 42 while the one on the first level was 43!
But as I said, this was just a quick test I did, without actually taking notes on what the nectar was and such. I was going to do a proper indepth study of the values on different levels, but then I had a glitch and ended up starting a new sim who is more into adventuring than ngardening and nectar making.

What kind of nectar you start with shouldn't make any difference, as long as your test for all levels began with nectar valued the same per bottle.

Lol, I like how three people in a row commented basically the same thing. What I like even more is how I was the first! ;D

Ha. Well, I wanted to see if that little caffeinated nugget I threw out woke up any of the tourney players who planned on diving into the nectar challenge.

That's going to be very interesting because as opposed to most challenges, there's really only one endgame plan for the nectar challenge. At least in my opinion. Now there are multiple routes to get to that endgame plan, but it's going to be who can get to that point the quickest and start stockpiling the best nectar that's going to win. Another tough decision is when to go to France. Lots of strategy involved in that one.

Um, what's the nectar challenge? I thought I might ditch my mods and try a challenge but I can't see anything about a nectar challenge in the list.

The nectar challenge has not started yet, so there's no thread. But, if you look at the schedule sticky you'll see it listed. The ruleset is basically done, so I plan on posting it tomorrow.

Yea! I've been waiting for the official rules and regulations.

Yeah, I haven't been thinking of a plan or strategy until I can look at the rules.  But I have a feeling I won't do well in this challenge.

I think for fairness sake, the rules should be on display for at least a week prior to the commencement of the contest to allow for everyone to formulate and familiarize themselves with the new parameters of the contest.

Definitely. That has always been my intent with this new tournament season. I'll fire up a new tournament thread with the ruleset one week before kickoff.
