EA is going digital
« on: May 11, 2011, 08:50:21 AM »
If you are one of the players that like having the actual physical game disc in your hand that may be coming to an end.

I was looking at the EA Sims forum last night and they have started a petition for EA.

Oh, come on! What if I don't have a credit card? Then I can't buy Sims?! That's just... awful. >:(

That sounds good I guess? I have EADM and download all my games from there. The only reason I need the disk is for the serial number but I guess they will find another way to do it!
EDIT: Oopps didn't even think about that Chronic. Maybe not such a good idea.  :(

Somehow I just can't justify in my mind spending 40.00 on a download.

The thread at Sims EA sites three sources for the story.

And what about the people that have slow internet? I downloaded Sims Medieval from their website and it took 10 hours. I like the game disc better.

I posted the story for reasons just like this. Maybe people should email EA and tell them how they feel.

Yeah, someone should write an email and then pass it around. That way everyone sends the same email and maybe they'll listen to us.

While I don't mind if they intend to focus on going digital I still feel for those who has a slow internet or no credit card. Personaly I prefer disc since then I can easily instal and re-instal, besides having the disc is good for keeping track of which EP's you have.

I doubt EA will pay attention to what people think and say. That's what they decided and they're going to do it no matter what people say. Unfortunately. :P

And I may be wrong about this, but doesn't EA limit the times (I think I heard four) you can re-download the digital version of the game?

That doesn't help at all if my internet is down or in other ways not available unfortunatly.

I understood that as we can download the game from EADM onto 4 different computers. But to get around that, you just disallow the computer that you removed the game from. I could be wrong but if I am, I've only got one reinstall left. It seems very bad for there to be a limit on how many times you can download a fresh copy of the game you paid for.

It's poor business decisions like this that have put Sony in the position they're in today in the console market:  a very distant last place...with the gap growing every day.  They have misjudged the market on literally every level possible, and now it looks like EA is starting to follow suit.

I have a good connection and internet speed, so that is not my issue.  My issue is the functionality of the store and EA's level of customer support.  I absolutely will not buy games from them without a physical disc.  Not after the fiasco that was the retail release of Barnacle Bay.

Especially when EA recommends a fresh install with every patch.

Since you can already pre-order the disc I doubt they are starting with Generations.
