Sims take ages to move?
« on: May 11, 2011, 04:27:41 AM »
Sorry for the title of this, I didn't really know how else to phrase it.. Basically, when I click on an action for my sim to do, the sim seems to wait for about five sim minutes before going and doing it. Is this normal? Also, when I click on an action for the sim to do when that sim is attending or having a party, the action takes even longer to be done. In fact, my game can sometimes really lag during parties.. Can anyone help me on how to sort this? Is it my game card? I haven't got much things on the game, I haven't been playing that long.  :(

Well, it could be a whole bunch of things. Do you know exactly what your computer statistics are? (game card, RAM, etc.)

Does this happen with all actions at all times or only with specific actions on specific moments?

For instance, during parties, if you order your sim to take food from a plate/buffet table there usually are a lot of other sims who have that same action running. Your sim will then wait for those sims to get food before they get food themselves.  In my dynasty I have all household members on the same day/night rhythm, which means they also eat at the same time. When a sim upstairs is executing the action to get food, the sim standing right next to it will just wait around until that sim grabbed their food (this is if they "started" the action later), instead of just grabbing the food.

It's really annoying and I constantly have to unqueue actions and re-queue them per sim in the right order.

I'm not sure if this sounds familiar to you, or if it's different for you and the cause may be something else.

@Phyre Yeh, that kinda happens but not really as you described it. It isn't just to do with food at the parties.. One of my sims was taking her baby son to blow out his candles and would wait so long to do it, even though no one was standing near the cake so she didn't really have anything to wait for. :( Also it can be with things as simple as going to talk to another sim (during parties).

@Audren I'm not really sure how to find out what my graphics card is? :/

Do you have an Intel sticker on your laptop? Go to the Intel site and they can scan your computer and find out your laptops specs and it's graphics card and chip set. x) Or I could come round..  ;)

I'm almost positive that it is just lag, but I don't know what exactly could be causing it. I'm not that technically skilled.

That all seem "normal" events to trigger the response delay I described. At parties, if your sims wants to talk to another sim but there is a third sim already on the way to the sim you're trying to interact with; that will result in the same "waiting" delay. There is an action interfering with yours (even if it doesn't seem so), so your sim waits for that action to finish.

With ages babies and toddler's up it always takes a very long time. Either because there's something interfering with picking up the child, or just because your sim is waiting for other sims to arrive at the birthday cake.

I do advice you to check your hardware though, to see if it isn't a problem there, but I'm fairly certain what you're experiencing is normal game or action lag.

That's a common issue. Phyre is right, it mostly occurs during birthday parties. You may have noticed that a Sim will take ages to finally age up during a party with everybody cheering, but a single Sim with no Sims around will age up nearly instantly. Other interactions can be treated the same way. You just have to wait for the blocking Sim/interaction to stop, otherwise you can restart the interaction. Of course, that can't be a solution with birthday cakes.
That problem is in everyone's games, I can assure you. Most people have been complaining about this.
In addition, such delay also happens when the fire alarm at the Fire Station rings (Firefighter profession - Ambitions) and your Sim just stands there doing nothing for forty minutes, while the performance meter goes down. That's simply called goofing around.
I believe it's just an annoying glitch/feature in the game and has nothing to do with hardware or computer.
Good luck in finding the solution.
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

Okay. Yeah, if it's happening to everyone it probably is just lag. Thanks, guys. :)

With Windows, go into your control panel (start menu) and open up your device manager.  It will be listed under "Display Adapters."
