Oh, I know about this!! My friend (the one who had 29 generations of sims before he gave up) does experiments and stuff with sims, and he had one where he'd have two seperate games with the same copy of a sim with the same traits and everything and he'd treat one good and grant her wishes and achieve her lifetime wish, etc. so she had loads of Lifetime Happiness Points but he'd do the complete opposite with the other and keep her miserable all the time.... but then, shock of all shocks, when they reached the elder stage.... The happy one died fourteen days before the sad one! (and that's including calculations about how far along they were in their lives when they started, etc.) So it probably is just random..  :P

Yep, that's just what I'm thinking. Maybe it's just random and all that "facts" are fake?..

I wouldn't say "fake" exactly.  The problem with discovering the actual facts is that there is a lot of random chance to conceal them.  All people can do really is make observations.

My observation on this, taken from both my own experience and things people have said have happened in their game, is that death from old age is treated as a random birthday.  It would seem that every day an elder sim wakes up, there is a random chance that this day is their last birthday.  This chance seems to be affected by certain things, like vegetarianism and the athletics challenge in question.  Like Juxtaposition, I have also noticed that employment seems to affect this chance, and it really wouldn't surprise me to discover that a sims happiness throughout their life seems to affect it as well, if I choose to investigate it.

However, the key words in all of that is "seems."  Because, as Pam stated: through the course of any extensive investigation, you're very likely to encounter at least one sim, who does not fit the profile you've worked up, who seems to defy the odds.

Hmm. Your theory is perfectly right, Hosfac. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the interesting explanation, Hosfac. :)

@Pam
Is this the complex equation you are talking about:

Quote from: TGBlank in another thread, who, in turn, took it from another website
According to the code, Elders' minimum age is 2.428 multiplied for the constant k[lifespan]SimDaysPerAgingYear, which is 2 for Short, 4 for Medium, 7 for Normal, 15 for Long, 75 for Epic.

This means the minimum age in days for Elders should be:

    * 4.856 for Short lifespan (25 days total)
    * 9.712 for Medium lifespan (50 days total)
    * 16.996 for Normal lifespan (90 days total)
    * 36.42 for Long lifespan (190 days total)
    * 182.1 for Epic lifespan (970 days total)

After this minimum, each day there's a probability the elder will die, as follows:

    * 30% for Short lifespan
    * 20% for Medium lifespan
    * 14% for Normal lifespan
    * 6% for Long lifespan
    * 3% for Epic lifespan

The only modifier I found is for elder marathon runners (athletic challenge), which have their daily chance of dying multiplied for 0.75 - for example 10.5% instead of 14% in case of Normal lifespan.
Unless there's something else hardcoded elsewhere, this seems to be the only thing that affects lifespan.

EDIT: I forgot, this is pre-World Adventures.

Wow, that's a huge observation you found, Seabody. Before WA or after, it's still very useful, thanks! :D

It's not mine. I googled it for this forum, and found that. ;D

I've also done some math. Using that information, we can assume:

Chance of Death per day for Elders (With Marathon Runner completed):

Lifespan: Chance
Short: 22.5%
Medium: 15%
Normal: 10.5%
Long: 4.5%
Epic: 2.3%

This was done with Excel, which I believe rounded it for me.

I was trying to do something a little more advanced as well. I realised my math for that was completely wrong.

What I have found through my observation [Google search] is that the chance of Elder's dieing increases each day into the Elder life stage.
Another important fact is that (without glitches/bugs and mods) on Normal lifespan setting the maximum age Elders can reach is 135-140 Sim days. I've read quite a few people's posts in the official forums to come to this conclusion.

Do you mean that the chance compounds every day? Like on Epic lifespan, On day 961 the chance is 2.3%, day 962 it is 4.6%, day 963 it is 6.9%, and so on?

I wouldn't say that much each day. Like 961 - 2,3%, 962 - 2,5% etc. 0,2% each day, not more.

I also think this should go in the guide. It's really good stuff.

EDIT: Sorry. I accidentally removed my last post. Don't ask me how, because I don't know.

I did some math with that theory Chronic.
Should it compound at a rate of 0.20% per day, presuming a Sim never died until the probability reached 100%, there would be a grand total of 488 days until the probability reached 99.90%
The odds against this happening are astronomical, but it could be worth mentioning.
