Birthday/aging problem
« on: May 05, 2011, 09:00:32 AM »
Lately I've noticed that my Sim kids seem to have a problem with aging. I play lifespan long, with aging and story progression on, and the kids don't seem to have their birthdays until I switch back to their household. For example, when I leave a household, the Sim kid is a toddler. His avatar never updates and so I keep thinking he's still a toddler. When I switch back to his household, he's a child and it looks like he JUST turned into a child because he isn't any further into childhood according to his "age." Then that night, he has a birthday and jumps to being a teen.

This has happened now three or four times with different Sim kids. I also think (although I don't quite remember) that one of my young adults aged up to being an elder, skipping the adult phase entirely.

What gives? Why aren't the Sims aging along with story progression? Also one poor kid who went from child to teen apparently never went to school, met anyone, or made friends. His only relationships are his mom and dad.

I am CC free (minus stuff downloaded directly from the EA store, but not the exchange), and have no mods.

Sometimes sims age strangely on story progression.  I had something similar happen in my legacy game.  The heir had a girlfriend in high school, so they were both teens.  When he aged up, he invited her over and I was pleased to see that she aged up, too.  When they got married, though, she was at the beginning of the adult stage instead of young adult.  Story progression aged her straight from teen to adult!  Now she's an entire life stage older than him.  I had to rush to have them have kids so she wouldn't be an old lady while they were still toddlers.  :(

I can confirm this has happened to me. My woman skipped her adulthood in my Dynasty. We call it the aging bug, but I don't know why it happens. I also have no CC or mods. I wish I could give you a definite answer as to why it happens and how to stop it, but unfortunately I think only EA could answer it and fix it.

I have a Sim that I created and he was a teenager ready to age up into a young adult. He met a townie girl in school that I decided he should marry. When he had his birthday and aged up I added her to his household at his party. When the game processed this action the townie girl went from teenager to adult, skipping the young adult phase. I noticed that she had a previous "love interest" with another teenage townie and it only seemed appropriate that I send her to "ask just to be friends" with him. It was more humorous than odd seeing this adult Sim breaking up with a teenage boy and then seeing him yelling at her and then warning her that if she kept acting inappropriately he would have to ask her to leave - LOL! So silly...yet funny too!

There is sometimes a similar problem with non-active household pregnancies. Women would carrie the unborn child for days and days until you switched households. After a day or so they would go into labor. I'd really like for these to be fixed, even though I don't have them as it is causing problems in other games. (I never seem to get glitches, even though I often forget to patch up as I unchecked automatic installment)
