The next day brought around my birthday. I was still completely shaken by the incident that had occurred last night, but I dared not speak of it to anyone. I didn’t want to be thought of as cowardly, insane or even a liar.
I drew a deep breath, and forced a smile upon my face. My friends were waiting in the courtyard, and they wouldn’t be expecting me to come out with a frown upon my face.

I blew out my candles, which hardly resulted in any differences. I thought I’d feel new again after my birthday, but the ghost incident was still holding me down.



I went lookg for Mali. It was her birthday too.
Typically, I found her running around in the backyard making friends with the neighbours. I smiled to myself. My little girl was very friendly; everyone seemed to love her. I knew she’d make me proud as a teenager.


Once I called her over, she came skipping to the courtyard, a big grin on her face. Her happiness was contagious, and I couldn’t help but grin back. I felt happiness start to seep back into the cracks were the doubt had laid.

With the cheering of the party, Mali blew out her candles, eager to become a big girl.



She grew up to be very pretty. Very thin, but pretty none-the-less.



Just after the final guest departed from the party, I heard mum cry out. Uncle Arche’s soul had started to depart from our world.


Mum and Grandma Europa were hysterical. I could hardly blame them; they were losing their brother and child.


But as the Grim came to collect his soul, Arche smiled at us. It was a warming smile; soothing. It promised us that he was ready to move on to the next life.


We had a small funeral on the spot. Arche was spontaneous, and we knew he’d appreciate it. I hugged mum, comforting her as she had done in the past for me. I told her that Arche loved her; he loved us all. I told her and Grandma Europa that he wasn’t sad to go. He’s smile had said enough.
They stifled their tears, and nodded in agreement.
Although it wasn’t easy to lose him, and we'd feel down for a while, with the right attitude we’d learn to live again.

We hugged each other tight, thankful to have one another. As we a family we were strong. As a family, we’d get by.

Aww, RIP Archie, that's not a happy way to end a birthday party though. I loved Mali's everyday child dress, it was so cute and full oh whimsy!

Woah, she is thin as a teen! She's the most thin teen I've ever seen I think! She is pretty though, and I love her teen clothes, the bright blue is even brighter looking surrounded by black.

Great updates, I loved how you did the creepy ghost!

I think she's the thinnest teen I've ever seen too. Her body looks normal from the side, but then her arms are like twigs. I was even more surprised, seeing as Cameron isn't exactly small. Though I did test him out in the body sculptor to see how he'd look, so I must have tried for baby then without realising
I decided that I liked Cameron better chubby though.

Hehe, the ghost. I sat there thinking, then yelled out "Ben...." (Ben's my partner).
He knows so much about Gimp and Photoshop. In fact, he's always on it making things for fun. He even made a logo for my brothers band. Anyway, he showed me how to do a few things, without taking over. Probably because I kept saying "No, I want it to look more like this...". He's very patient with me haha.
So I wouldn't have been able to do the first ghost picture without him showing me around gimp a bit.

Unlike me when I was a teen, Mali was a very dedicated student. She enjoyed going to school for both the socialisation as well as the learning. I knew she’d grow up to be one smart girl.



One day she walked into the kitchen, growling in frustration. I asked her what was wrong, feeling the concern rise up with in me.
I almost laughed out loud when she said that she was annoyed at the bath taps, but the look on her face made me hold it back.
“We’ll get a new one tomorrow, okay?” I said, hoping to relax her a bit.
“Mum!” she whined, “you always say we’ll get a new one tomorrow!”. With that she stormed off.
I looked at mum and shook my head. “Teenagers..” was all I needed to say. Mum smiled knowing all too well.

Later in the afternoon, I heard banging coming from downstairs. I rushed down to see what all the racket was, and was rather surprised to see Mali with a spanner in her hand, meddling around with the taps.
All she did was look at me and said “I knew you’d never get a new one, so I’m making this one better. Go away.”
I walked away feeling rather amused at the idea of my little girl acting like a repairman.


That night, after she’d successfully updated the entire bathroom, I caught her leaving the house.
“Mali. Where are you going?” I asked.
“Mum, do you really think I’m going to tell you?” she snapped at me.
“Well do you really think I’m going to let you walk through the streets at night?” I replied.
She sighed. “Fine. But don’t get mad at me. I…” she hesitated, starting to shuffle her feet. I waited patiently for her to finish her sentence. “A boy asked me out.. on a date kind of thing..”.
So this is what it came down to. A boy.

I stood on the spot, contemplating the situation for a while. I had dated a boy as a teenager, only to have it end in heartbreak. I didn’t ever want my daughter to go through that. Yet I couldn’t just stop her from seeing a boy. She’d need a husband later in life, and if I deprived her now, that could be consequential in the long run.
I tried to weigh it up - the possibility of love versus the possibility of heartbreak. I didn't want my baby to be hurt.
I realised that Mali had been staring at me expectantly the whole time I was having this internal battle. Although the battle wasn’t over in my mind, I went by my get feeling. “Go on then. But be back by 11pm”.
She surprised me by giving me a hug before running off to the taxi. I prayed that she’d be okay.

At 10pm of that night, as all the elders were hopping into bed, I heard a car pull up outside the house. Mali and a boy stepped out. I recognised the boy – I was friends with his mother. His name was Thomas Clare. From what his mother had told me, he was a very intelligent young boy, intent on succeeding in school.
What seemed like a war that would be raging through my mind forever, died down a little bit. If this was the boy she was dating, then I needn’t worry. He was a nice boy, and I could easily accept him.

They sat down on the seat in front of the house, snuggling up nice and close. I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but they were both very engaged in each other; staring deeply into each other’s eyes.


As they lent in and kissed, I moved away from the window. I would let my daughter enjoy her moment without the eyes of her mother.


I was about to get into bed, when Cameron gave me a call. He’d been on a late shift, so I wasn’t expecting to hear from him before I woke up the next morning.
I answered the phone, asking if everything was alright. He told me he’d forgotten something – it was his birthday!

I told him to wait outside the park, and I’d come pick him up in a moment. I couldn’t believe we’d both completely forgotten his birthday!
As I pulled up outside the park, he was standing there cheering for himself. I smiled; although he was just about to become an elder, he was still as joyful as a child.



He stepped into the car, and we drove back home. We got into bed and snuggled close. He may have been an elder, but we were still in love. I knew that nothing would ever change my love for him; grey hair or not. He kissed me on the forehead, as I dozed off; asleep in his arms.

Mali is a gorgeous looking teen! You can also definitely see some Moon features in her face now; she's a beautiful mix.

I love her new wardrobe, it's very "teenage class"; it suits her!

I think all parents reel a bit when their child starts dating, it's such a loud sign that scream "Look at me, I'm growing up, and there's nothing you can do about it!" I think Lysi handled this well though. I hope it works out between Mali and Thomas!

And Happy Birthday Cameron! Except for the grey I don't think he looks old at all.

It seemed as though Arche was just taken from us when Death came again. This time he came for my Dad, Jamie.

He was telling Mum how much he loved her, when he started to float. We all stood, shocked - none of us were expecting this so soon.


Mum began to cry at the loss of her love.
Although he was just a ghost, Dad kissed her on the nose and wiped away her tears. He lifted her chin, and looked her in the eye. "I love you Leda. I truly love you. Please don't cry - I will be at peace. Stay happy. Stay happy for me."


As he disappeared into nothing, we all crowded around Mum, pulling her into a family hug. I promised her that we’d get through. We had before, and we would again. She stroked my hair as she whispers “Thank you Dear”.

Over the next few days, when Mali wasn’t out on dates with Thomas, she spent her time upgrading everything around the house. It seemed as though it was her way of getting away from everything; her way of escaping the sadness that took her when Death came for Jamie.
She was becoming quite handy, being able to fix anything that was broken. It certainly saved the elders the trouble of getting down on the ground to try and mend things.




One night, we all decided to get out of the house and have dinner at the bistro. Mali chose to stay behind to upgrade some more objects around the house.
Little did she tell me that Thomas would be coming around.

They stood in the backyard, under the stars.
They talked about their future; their goals, their fears. They talked about what they truly wanted in life.
Thomas gazed into Mali’s eyes and spoke. “But what I really want, more than anything in this world, is you”.
Mali kissed him. A kiss that meant she would be his; forever.




The next day brought Mali’s birthday. I held a party, making sure to invite all her friends.
As she blew out her candles, I felt weird. I was watching my daughter become a young adult. It seemed as though it was only yesterday I was bringing her home from the hospital in her little pink blanket.



Now that she was an adult, she decided to seize the moment. The sun was setting over the beach on the horizon, it's rays falling on Thomas who was standing in the centre of the courtyard.
Mali walked up to him. She kissed him softly and told him she loved him.
She then got down on one knee - proposing marriage.


He pulled her into a tight hug, as he said of course. The rest of the party applauded the happy couple, as they beamed at one another.
They shared a kiss; lost in the moment.



After a makeover, Thomas ended up quite a strapping young man.


I was so very happy for my daughter. She’d managed to skip all the hurt I went through during my first years as a young adult – she’d managed to find a true love. We left the couple of them in the courtyard, as they danced under the sunset. Young and in love.
