I think a useful thing for this thread would be a summary of things sims won't do autonomously, since this seems to be shorter. I

I agree, Chuckles.  And it would probably make sense to have that list at the beginning of the thread, where it's easy to find.  So if you don't mind, I'll copy your list and add it to my first post.  Other things can be added as necessary.  Thanks for the list!

I think I've had Sims woohoo autonomously, but they won't try for baby. Also, I've been told that they won't use the food replicator unless they're told to. I've never seen one repair something; but they probably won't upgrade anything. They won't write on the computer, but if they're workaholics, they will work from home.

I've had sims teach a toddler skills, just not potty training.

Useful traits for autonomous sims are probably:
- neat
- friendly
- flirty
- family oriented
-

I would also add Mean Spirited to the list too. Mean Spirited Sims, basically do the exact opposite of friendly Sims, and are never polite, unless the mean spirited also has the good trait. (Yes, you can have a mean spirited and good trait! Just like you can have evil and friendly)

If a mean spirited Sim were also hot headed, they are about 80 times more likely to argue with another Sim. I discovered this in AP when I played with Imogen Pelly. Due to her snob trait, she was about 50 times more prone to criticizing.

One of my Sims, who had the friendly and charismatic traits, started a date with a Sim while her boyfriend was cooking in the kitchen.  I had to freeze them fast, break it up, and send the other man home before the boyfriend came back into the living room.

Chuckles, I have had someone get a job without me telling him too. It was Antone in my last dynasty. I changed households for a few days when I left he was unemployed and when I took control of them again, he was level 1 in the culinary career.

With story progression on, most of these things will happen while you are NOT controlling sims - it's when you are 'controlling' a household that they won't do them.

I have to say, the one Sim that has argued more than any other Sim on her own (even more than Nick Alto and Jared Frio combined), is Imogen Pelly! I'm serious! I played around with her, and even tried to get her ex-boyfriend to schmooze her to see if they could actually get back together, he would do nice things like give her flowers and what not, and every other social menu from his end was "be argued with" or "be yelled at," while I catch Jared and Nick doing those things every so often. I'm thinking her hot headed trait doubles her chances of autonomously picking fights. I should have mentioned that Imogen is also mean spirited.

I understand that, but the weird thing is I had someone in their 90's when I left and I turned aging and SP off. That's why it was such a shock getting back to him working!!

Can"t trust those sims! I made a sim specifically for my sim to meet and marry. Two days after moving him in to his own apartment, I go to edit town and find out he was already engaged to someone else! Who told him he could do that?! Lol!

Insane Sims do like to sit on the bathtub or the toilet even if there is a suitable couch or chair available.

Rachel
Hehe i think any Sim will do that, Agnes sat on a toilet when there was no chairs to eat her salad lol.  It was a business not a home so maybe that made a difference.

I have witnessed my sims using the treadmill and answering the door by themselves - but like someone said it may be related to traits, the sims who uses the treadmill autonomously is an active sim and the one who answers the door is friendly. Maybe this could be why some sims do and some wont?

Insane sims also use the treadmill by themselfs. And pets with the hunter trait will hunt on their own.

I'm about to try a challenge that I found on the Official Sims 3 Forum a while back. I'm not going to link, but if anyone is interested, PM me. It's a challenge centred around one sim running a "Hotel" sort of arrangement with 7 "guests". The "owner" must always be the active sim. Should be interesting to see what these sims get up to when left alone!
