Yeah, it can be challenging, Kaibilly.  What I do is play slowly - usually on the lowest speed - and pause a lot.  It takes me a long time to get things done, but that's ok - I'm not in a race.

And I completely agree with you about how annoying the Sims and their sprinklers can be.  In the Clan Douglas Dynasty, whenever the Elders escaped from my control, they'd always head for the sprinklers.  Did they really think I enjoyed seeing them run around in their swim suits?   ;D

That must be what I do wrong, I usually play on fast speed  ::) I do pause a lot, but obviously miss a lot of interactions on fast speed
We could learn a lot from crayons:
Some are sharp, some are pretty,
Some are dull, some have weird names,
And all are different colors....but
They all exist very nicely in the same box.

So I did finally install ambitions, and all my Sims want to do is play Gnubb. They play it until they go cranky. Ever since I added Ambitions to my Sims Game my Sims will only do the following: Jump on the Trampoline, Play Gnubb and use the Water Slide.

I have to force them off those things.  ;D

Oh, and my kids autonomously preside to the royal court.

I notice that old paparazzi autonomously die in my front yard. I know it sounds sinister but I've encountered that now 2, maybe 3 times in just 10 weeks or so. Good guy as I am I send my sims the next day with the tombstone to the nearest graveyard to give the paparazi something others to photograph than my sims.
Also the bartender died just after my sim has order a drink. Maybe he had taste the drink before my sim did? Hmmm, better stay away from the cocktales...

Items That Sims Love
« Reply #108 on: July 03, 2011, 04:37:05 PM »
There are a couple items that my sims LOVE to use and they do it whenever I'm not controlling them.

- Sprinkler
- Easel
- Play on the Computer

Any other items? Things that is hard to take your sim away from is what I mean.

There is actually an ongoing discussion about it here. :)

I'm working on a story where my Sims' spouses are autonomous. They will go to work, and eventually take care of basic needs -- eating, sleeping, peeing, showering. They will feed a toddler, but if they put the toddler in the high chair, they forget to hand over the bowl. The Sim I'm controlling can ask them to clean up and stop doing something (like playing the guitar and playing computer games). I' still looking for a spouse with the "Neat" trait, however.

Sims play air gitar autonomiously!

@Kaibily: just give al your sims maximum 7 options to do an let the eight one be 'Call For Service.' Now every time a service message popped up when you're somewhere else you know yojr sim has done his routine, you can click the serbice popup away, pauze the game, give the sim new orders and repeat. That's how I've always did it. ;)

That's ironic. You're linking to the topic you are typing to the topic you are linking to... Or something like that.

I linked to this topic in an another topic because there were alike. Afterwards these two threads were merged.

My pets have autonomously climbed up on the furniture. They've also played in the toilet. Sometimes, I've caught mommy cat snuggling with her baby kitten.

Sims autonomously use a lot of skill items. Painting, sculpting, logic, instruments, etc. Of course, with the instruments, once one is picked up, everyone stares at that guy without picking up their own guitar.

I think a useful thing for this thread would be a summary of things sims won't do autonomously, since this seems to be shorter. I only just found this thread, but have found it very interesting - it inspires me to make my own autonomous challenge, where you need to find the right starting household configuration and traits in order for the game to continue with the best possible outcome. You get 2 days at the very beginning to help them form useful habits, and then after that it's hands off except for important life events that they just won't do themselves. [edit: I think I'll have to allow 2 commands per day, but only items from the below list - my neat handy sim just won't repair the toilet, and so he refuses to use it and pees himself.]

Myself, I've never seen them leave the house autonomously except for work or school. As far as I know they won't complete opportunities on their own. I've never had sims woohoo on their own. They'll flirt nearly all day and be extremely irrestistable, but never actually go to bed, even if I've previously had them do so. They won't get a job on their own.

So to summarise what I've seen here so far, they wont:

- woohoo
- get a job/quit work
- leave the home lot except for work/school
- take photographs/still life paintings
- use the treadmill
- teach toddlers to talk/potty train
- answer the door
- complete opportunities
- move house/go on vacation
- pay bills
- have a party
- bathe the dog for fleas
- hunt
- reinforce pet behaviour
- call for services (fireman, police, maid, repairman etc)
- repair items (may be skill level dependent)

Useful traits for autonomous sims are probably:
- neat
- friendly
- flirty
- family oriented
- hopeless romantic
- handy
- brave (to deal with fires - can someone confirm that sims won't call the fireman themselves?)

There are probably more obvious things that need to be added to the list, so it would be great to have more suggestions. Perhaps something for the guide? I'm about to embark on this challenge idea, so I may be able to add a few more and confirm others.

One last thing: someone mentioned sims on high free will seem to be even more autonomous since Generations. I have noticed this too. It's frustrating how often sims I'm micro managing cancel their queues and go off and do their own thing while I'm not watching.

When I was testing the set up for a challenge From Zero to Hero (a couple suppose to become enemies and starving) - I thought it will be easy as they were alone on empty lot, until one of them went toward beach all by his Simself :o It was on empty 30x20 lot next to Frio Brothers, and it was the only time I've seen it, but it happen.
I also think I saw Sims repairing things by themselves.

Really? It was that very same challenge that my sims never went anywhere on fast forward (except for fires) for weeks! But, even so, I'll strike it from the list.
