The Fun Motive
« on: April 27, 2011, 12:37:39 AM »
This will sound odd, but I want to lower my Sim's fun motive. I want to get her to watch TV to raise her Cooking skill, you see, and she won't do that once the Fun motive is full. So I need to get it very low. How do I do this? She doesn't have a job, so that's not currently an option.

I'm not sure how to lower a mood, but I'm sure someone here knows how you can do that. But with my sims, as long as no other need is desperate they'll sit and watch tv all day if I let them know matter how high thier fun mood is.

Write and write and write.
It's that simple!

Also, you can use testingcheats to do this.
1. Press Ctrl+Shift+C
2. Type "testingcheatsenabled true"
3. Left click on the fun motive and drag it down.

Welcome WhiteWings! If you're not opposed to cheating, you can turn on testingcheatsenabled true on, and then you can click and drag the fun meter down. If you don't like cheating, do a non-fun activity like writing, and it will go down. Hope this helps.

EDIT: Seabody, we posted at the same time! Great minds think alike!  ;D

Being around a crying baby lowers fun pretty quickly.  Also a Zap from the Moodlet Manager could bring down the fun motive, but you'd then have to deal with the other motives dropping as well.

I've never had a problem getting my Sims to watch TV, even when their fun meter is maxed.  Is this always the case in your game, Whitewings?

The best ways conventional ways I know of to lower fun are to work on a novel too long, probably three to four hours or more (I've always hated that that doesn't raise fun, but just the opposite is true), or to spend an entire day working too hard at work.  Maybe not an entire day, actually, since that will bring on some major negative moodlet action, but maybe a business as usual for a few hours, then work hard for the rest of the day.

Legally speaking? I advice to buy the cheapest tv (which increases fun slower than with the other tv's) which has still the coocking channel available to it (and I forgot which one that is, or if all tv's have those channels) and I believe giving your sim the technophobe trait should decrease the amount of fun for your sim. But that's just theoretical.

So, one cheap television and one technophobe trait should do the job. In theory.

I agree with Pam I have never had any problem with my Sims watching television whilst their fun meter was full. This includes having them watch the cooking or fishing channels to skill up.

Sometimes your Sim may stop an interaction when the need bar has been filled. You can just send them to watch TV after though.

I think it might be happening because my sim has the trait "Loves the Outdoors."

I've never had a problem with the TV either. Yes, the stopping can be annoying, but is it worth losing a huge moodlet? Don't forget that Sims gain skills at a faster rate when their mood is high. ;)

Than place the tv outside, within a fenced area of course. As long as we don't have weather in the game your tv should be fine.

I good way to lower the fun motive is when you go to work just make them work hard and usually they're either strained or stressed out by the time they're done.   :D
