I just cleaned out the DCBackups file, hopefully it improves my game performance, because my game was slow and just generally crappy.

Can I just say THANK YOU - it took me four hours to get my family evicted (1 hr) saved to the households slot (1 hr) select new town and move in family (2 hrs).  At first I was like, this was so stupid and was it worth it to save my family?  The answer: YES. I will move my families once a month to a new town.  I did not move their home with them.  I removed all the driveways from businesses.  I changed  few home lots to community and made them no visitors.
Now if only I could "contain" my family to not make any friends we will be all set!  LOL

I sold their vacation homes except one when my game became almost unplayable, so I have yet to travel.

Thank you so much for your information.  I greatly appreciate your website!

Jean

I deleted the DCBackup file and cleared out my recycling bin before reading the rest of the posts :C
Help? I will reinstall everything if necessary.

No help needed.
If you cleared DCBackup and not DCCache, you're fine.

Another tip to help with Game Performance:
Clean up your computer. Defrag your Hard drive every so often in addition to running a virus scan once a week. Also uninstall programs you don't need or use and scan for registry errors that can make your computer run slower. CCleaner is great for that and its free!

Hi guys,

About moving most of your save files elsewhere to make the game faster... Can you also make a new folder in the folder Saves with another name and put all other save files (that you don't use right now) in there? I mean, will that help in speed or do I need to put all other save files completely elsewhere on my computer to help in speed?
I sure hope you understand what I mean... it's getting a little late here  ;)
Problem? Don't panic! There is always a solution. You just have to find it  :D

Can the script error files and the files that start with xcpt be deleted?

Yes. The xcpt files (along with *.txt files) are created whenever the game crashes, to desktop or otherwise. They are to be sent to EA for examination but I don't know anyone who ever did that so I can't comment on that. Those files can also be analyzed with crash log analyzer at ModTheSims.

As for the script error files; those are created only if you have Twallan's ErrorTrap mod. You can send them to Twallan for reviewing and for getting help with your problem.

Those are the uses for those files. They are optional to keep. You can safely delete them if you do not intend to use them.

Does anyone has an answer to my question?
Or should I explain what I mean...?

@Odie I don't know, but my theory is that another folder in the Saves folder will make TS3 think it may be a save. So I wouldn't risk it, and move it out to be safe. :)

@Anyone Should the first post be updated? As in, I think SocialCache is safe to delete, but I don't know, and it would be useful to have a list of files OK to delete there.

Is it safe to delete the package files in the thumbnails folder?

I don't think so.  My best guess is that those files are the thumbnail pictures that we see in Build/Buy Mode and Create-A-Sim, we well as anywhere else we see thumbnails in the game.

Pam will you look at this link please? I've deleted my tumbnails a few times because of what I read here. I trust your judement.simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Sims_3_Delete_Cache_Files

I have no real reason to distrust Sims Wiki and I believe they're one of our associates.  I'd say the information there is ok.  Apparently, the game will re-generate the thumbnails.
