I can't help but notice that a lot of these adopted kids have the same mouth, nose and eye shape. Are adopted kids mainly set to default settings with facial features?

Yes, I think so.

I was wondering if I was the only one who noticed that.

Definitely not the only one. I think it's a real shame there is so little variety between adopted children, default settings on all of them makes them a little bland.

Now that you pointed it out, I noticed. We definitely need some variety.

It would be better if adopting a child was like pushing the random button than just getting a default style. Still, they are good-looking defaults at least.

Interesting observations about the similarities between the adopted kids.  I have a family that will be soon adopting.  I'll have to keep a close eye on them.

As for the non-default hair colors, I think the game just mixes them up randomly and tosses them into the game.  Any time I run across a color that's not already pre-saved, I add it whether I especially like it or not.  It's nice to have many different hair colors in town and I've gotten the idea that the saved colors will show up randomly.

I've got some of my adopted ladies loaded into CAS, so I'm going to see just how close the similarities are. They definitely have no eye shape or eyebrow definition variation. I know I've gotten kids at all sorts of weights, and I'm thinking maybe the game uses the weight changes to mask the face similiarities. Nice one, EA. You can't see it in Demeter's picture, but she is quite big, and I'm wondering if I pulled her weight slider right down if she'll have thin cheeks.

My Riches Galore story is based on adopting.  There have been 10 adopted children in that game, and they don't look alike to me.  I'm not going to post pictures of them here, but there are lots of pictures in the story if anyone wants to look at them.

I can definitely see the same face shape on all of those girls. The boys I didn't get a clear look at most of (I only skimmed through a page), but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same.

The Foster Five - Mark, Sarah, Kevin, Ella and Grace. All five are adopted and all five have amazingly similiar features.

Take away the hair and clothes and only have white diapers on them, I don't think you would be able to tell them apart. They are adorable Sims though.  :)

I've been following this thread even though I haven't yet adopted in the game, just because it's interesting, and I do have a question.  Has anyone tried to alter the amount of variation in adopted children?  For those of you who played TS2, remember how if you had two children and you didn't go into CAS and hit randomize, they'd wind up being clones?  I would hate to think the makers of the game would insert such an annoying and nonsensical feature into TS3, too, but has anyone tried it?  Adopting, then going into CAS and randomizing a few times?  Just curious.

What is weird is that, while all the adoptees do look very similar to each other, there is some slight variation player to player.

Dreamweaver's "Foster Five" look nearly identical to each other, but they look slightly different from the sims that The sweetest Pea adopted (who all look extremely similar to each other as well).
