I have a new theory. I think adopted children are defaulted to have similar genetic traits to the adoptee parents.

Also I wonder if you adopt them all at the same time aka 5 todlers then they look alike, but if you adopt a todler then when they grow up adopt a baby will they look alike?

Welcome to our Forum.

I don't think adopted children are made to have any of the genetic traits of the adoptive parents.  Adopted kids tend to look like one another as far as face shape, eye shape, mouth and nose shape, with different colored eyes and hair.  But they don't resemble the parents.

What is the hair style called that is used on Demeter?
@Tommyo3000
I love the hair color on Annabelle!

This thread makes me want to adopt! Perhaps I will. Off to play for me!

I'm not the sweetest pea but I'm fairly certain it may be CC because I've never seen it before.

I really like this thread, very interesting :)
Can original townies adopt children on their own or do you have to be in control of the household?

I think it's true if you have the Story Progression turned on, the inactive pre-made households will adopt children, pets, or have babies randomly. I definitely remember VJ Alvi grew up to be a single dad sim who seemed to spontaneously produce offspring in Sunset Valley.

Also, VJ's adopted children seemed to look like him, but when I took control of the household to look at the family tree, it seemed VJ didn't even have a Romantic Interest. So the adopted children just blend in with their new family.

I didn't think townies would adopt children on their own.  Did VJ's children have no mother on the family tree?  The game has been known to just produce children for single fathers with no explanation, but I don't think it's an adoption like when we're controlling the Sim.

You're right. Actually, VJ had a little girl, spawned from no explanation. I wasn't controlling the house, so who knows how he got her. The game just spawned her into his household after his father died.

I made up the explanation in my head that ever since VJ's mother had left the family (as it says in his bio to explain why VJ and his brother have no mother in the family tree), that he was adopting children to fill the void when people left him. And it became a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Also, his brother Miraj had a child out of wedlock with his girlfriend, where the woman had custody of the child in another house. I could see the parentage from the family tree. I forced Miraj to marry her and move in together. I took control of the Miraj Alvi newlywed household, and left VJ and his baby in their original home. Later when I checked on how VJ was doing, his daughter had aged up, and he had a second little baby girl! I never took control of VJ's House again to see whether or not the second child had a mother in the family tree.  I assumed not, because of my own story-telling prophecy.

Two children appeared in the Clavell family shortly after I started playing, Zackary and Iris. When I switched to their household I saw they had no mother, though they looked very like Bessie and Buster, though they were their grandkids. I never really understood how they came to be there, I assume adoption, but I played them both for a long time. Zackary ended up marrying Claire Ursine's daughter so he was fully integrated into the town by the time I left the family.

Wow, this thread is really interesting!
I usually don't adopt because I like to see the genetics play around but this makes me wanna try out the hypothesis if all of my adoptive kids would look alike, too.
maybe tonight one poor single parent has to adopt a lot of babies :D

To the random single dads in town, I had that in the very beginning. Almost every single guy in Sunset Valley would suddenly have a baby which looked a lot like him without any mother around. I haven't seen this in a while though, thought it was a bug that got fixed.

Well, I gues this thread has already proven my conspiracy theory correct! I don't have many adopted kids on my games, but I think that the two male adopted Sims in my current families have virtually identical faces! There are also two adopted girls (on different game files) that have the same very dark skin tone. Unfortunately, one of them is a baby, so I'll have to wait until she ages up to see if she got the violet eyes and blonde hair of the other one. I know it sounds strange, but I think it's really pretty.
To prove my point...

If only her father's biological children were better-looking...

Sarcastic hearts. :]

Does Edit in CAS work on toddlers?  Knowing they're likely to turn out this way, I'd rather scrap the baby's appearance as it arrived and go into CAS and hit randomize to get a sim that isn't one of these identicals.  You could always write down the personality and change that part back after you randomize.
