My save was corrupted... but how?
« on: April 23, 2011, 05:59:43 PM »
This is kind of hard to explain.

I was playing my favourite save game, and then, after travelling, saving and quitting, the game got corrupted. Next time I opened it up, I was in Egypt. I tried to select a house hold, via "Change Active Household" and there was a tooltip saying something like "You cannot change active households on vacation."
I know that that is normal. I clicked on the home icon, and the Travelling Home screen came up. I tried "Return to Game", and the game started travelling to Egypt!
I tried this several times, then deleted the file.
A few months ago, I remembered that this forum had a topic on restoring save games. So I went to my saves file and found the filename (Ambrosia Research.sims3.bad or Ambrosia Research.sims3.backup, it was something like that.) and followed the instructions.
My saves still behaved as above.
I did the instructions slightly differently (I cannot remember how), and yay! My save was restored!

I know I've fixed my save, but what I'd like to know is:
How did this glitch/annoying bug happen???

Traveling has quite a few bugs that have never been fixed.  A couple of them are quite severe and can be game breakers if you don't have another save file to use.  I suspect this is what happened with you because of the Egypt issue.  Also, because you found a save file that had "bad" in the file name, be sure to delete it and any others that have "bad" in the name.  If one file is "bad" it can spread to other save files and also corrupt them.
