Their business model seems to be to crank out products every few months that are anywhere from 75% (for EPs and base games) to 95% (for SPs) 'complete' and then play catch up with patches after the fact.  I suppose it's as valid as any other business model in the video game industry, but it definitely sets up a love-hate relationship between them and their customers.

As a 10-year Simmer, I agree entirely with your perception.
Every 6 months, grab more money from the fan-base ... and try and cheer them up later with a patch  ::)

If I bought a car with 3 wheels, hoping that there would be a 4-wheel patch along later, I'd be called s t u p i d  ;D
I have long since fallen out of 'love' with the EA business model, and I despise their ethics ... but I still like the games.

Lets see... what do our simmers like? Building? Yes of course, that's a major part of sims. SO, what if we take it OUT then charge them to put it back IN (expansion)? But how to do that and still keep them happy...? I know! We'll take a lot of other things out, and when they complain, we'll put those things back but not the building, so then they'll feel like they've got what they wanted!

This is what seems to me to be their logic. I too, despise their way of doing things. I got hooked at Sims 1, when, after never showing any interest in the game, my husband bought me the box set. I felt that I had to give it a fair chance... the rest is history! I've followed Carl's guide and the forum for quite a long time now, but haven't realy needed to post because it is so complete. It's nice to be part of a new game though.

I guess child succession must be the bit I'm looking forward to. It still would be good if we could turn aging on, and not just have sims 1 style play.

Pretty much all of them. I confess I'm shaking my head though and wondering why the heck EA did not implement some of these upon release. They just seem so obvious. But, hey...better late than never.

Well, Carl, time to pound the keyboard again, eh? This will alter some Guide articles.  :D

Yeah, I've got my work cut out for me. We managed to come up with over 40 pages already, and I'm going to have to take a look at almost all of them. I'm surely with the people who wish they could have done it sooner, and it does seem like this could have sat a couple more months before release. Some of this is really quite duh, especially since they should know their audience and how they love open gameplay. Gamespot gave it a 6 and reviews from high-profile sites like that really hurt sales. Regardless, I'm happy it's happening. Looks like I might have a bigger audience soon enough.

Oh, and my favorite? Camera improvements. That was my first gripe. Second has to be the ability to play it open-ended without going through a ridiculous cheat process.

It's the "understanding" fanboys that enable gaming companies to trick us and expect us to thank them for giving us patches.
What really happened is that the games were not debugged correctly, meaning we all bought beta versions of the game.

Just sick and tired of people praising EA for releasing a patch "so quickly" over at the EA forums. Releasing a patch on release day isn't something to praise about, it just means they made the decision to sell you something that wasn't complete.

I'm also assuming that all the "new features" that are to be released in 1.3 were originally planned anyway. I wish they would fix all the existing bugs first before gracing us with new features.

Totally agree with you on the 3 wheels thing!

@Optimal, I needed to change one of your verbs to something a little less "adult." But, I'm with you 100%. ;)

It's my patch, and I want it NOW!  ;) I really like the sound of this patch. If only it had been in the game to begin with!

Not yet. I've tried the launcher numerous times today and it has not detected anything available yet.

Me neither.  I just tried the game launcher and it still shows the game as being up to date.

And welcome to the forum, Dusty Monk!
