Architectural Design Profession- My Hints & Tips
« on: April 21, 2011, 12:15:51 PM »
Well, from the jobs that I've done (My Sim, Sammy Stratssand, reached level 10) there's a few things that I find massively help decrease the number of bad reports in the Architectural Design Profession. Here are the ones I go by on every job.

1. Don't edit the houses walls! Sims seem to hate this and say something like "I can't believe you did that to my house!" or "I'm almost embarrassed to invite people round now!". Although, if you are thinking of trying to get to the top of the AD profession sometimes editing the house will help in the long run. Once I got asked to do a Gym Studio, and I created a new room on the bottom floor. I got a bad report. Then, later, I got a request in from the same family and I used the old bad report room as the new bedroom, and I got a good report.

2. Don't "Clutter" things! This means that everything has to be accessible. I've had this a few times, but I haven't ever had a bad report and this complaint (You've cluttered things a bit. How am I use to get to my new stuff if I can't get to it?" or something like that)

3. Try to use your own sculptures or paintings as often as possible. In your Sims spare time after work hours make them (using a AD table (fastest, I find), forgotten the name!) paint/sketch. I find is best, as you can get about 4/6 done in a week (depends, really. Mood and skill change the amount + babies and toddlers) and if you remember, putting a even a small painting in makes people happy. I just put in the ones I don't like. :P

4. The list the client gives you is not just what you can get! Normally, I make a rug that is designed for the room or client. Put in plants and cheap decorations and normally the score is raised.

I hope this helped. I haven't read the guide on the website, but hay, I'm sure you don't mind.
Thanks for reading.

Just lose the marquee effect. Click the Modify button and remove the "Move" tags.

Nice tips on that career. Thanks for sharing them.

Interesting tips, thanks for sharing. I need to know everything about this career, because my Dynasty Generation 3 will be an Architectural Designer with Painting as SuperMax.

Sorry, what's SuperMax? Whats that?

Oops. I must have explained.  :-[
See, Metropolis Man (yep, the poster above) holds challenges, here on the forum. Probably, the most popular challenge is the Immortal Dynasty Challenge, but it's not part of the 13-event yearly tournament. It has specific rules, according to which you must raise eight generations of Immortals. By saying 'Immortal', I mean that the Sim has to complete special requirements (SuperMax is one of them, it basically means to max a skill and complete all of its skill journal challenges), and then taste Ambrosia. When the eight generation tastes Ambrosia for the first time, after completing the requirements, the challenge ends. Many players have attempted this challenge, including me. For the complete ruleset click here. The rules have been written by Metro and Pam. If you feel like attempting the challenge and writing a story on it, you are welcome to start a thread in the Share Your Sims 3 Stories board's Dynasties section. If you have any questions, you can ask them in the Immortal Dynasty Challenge thread. Hope that explained everything. :)

Okay, this was way off-topic.  ::)

Short form description:

SuperMaxing a skill:  getting a skill to level 10 and completing all related skill challenges.  Gardening for example has "Master Planter" (planting 19 varieties of plants), "Botanical Boss" (harvesting 75 perfect fruit/vegetables) and "Master Farmer" (harvesting 650 fruits/vegetables).  Completing these challenges gives that sim special benefits in regards to the skill (for example:  Master Planter reduces weed growth on plants).  They will be listed in the skill journal for any sim who has learned that skill.

Immortal Dynasty:  A specific type of legacy game in which the first born of every generation is required to "live forever" after completing the prerequisites for immortality.  It's an extremely intense challenge that puts the standard legacy rules to shame, as it requires a great deal of planning before you create your first sim for it.  I believe TheChronicR provided the link.

Has anyone else done this?: While renovating  a living room I decided to use an item from my family inventory because it doesn't count toward the  budget ( a sculpture my Sim made). I changed my mind and put the item back. The value of the item was added to my renovating budget At first I thought it was my imagination but now I have done it several times. For example: I had a $4,000 budget to renovate a bedroom and was able to increase it to $17,000 simply by adding and removing the same sculpture a few times. I ended up using that sculpture too at no charge. The Sim client went around blowing kisses at everything!!   A fun cheat

Oh yeah! I had that too! I was really confused at first. I think it's just a glitch.

There's a thread on that here.

My tip: If you have World Adventures, I would definitely recommend buying a camera and working on Photography. Instant personalised decorations!
