Concerning my Profile Picture
« on: April 17, 2011, 05:43:34 PM »
I took some screenshots for possible profile pictures for me of my favourite Sim, but when I tried using them, all that came up is a red 'X' Do I need to do anything to get it to show up, or is it just a graphical error?

How were you uploading your picture? From a website (url), or from your computer? The red X usually means that the profile image function can't find a valid image. Depending on your uploading method you should check the link you're specifying for your picture, see if it's correct. Also make sure that your image isn't bigger than the maximum (although I'm not sure if that would show up as a red X).

I go to the part in the profile area where you either choose an existing one or upload your own. I hit "Browse" and open the EA folder, than Sims 3 folder, then Screenshots folder, then pick the picture I want. Do I need to do anything else?

Sometimes the picture is too big, so you have to crop it, I have had that problem before.

Yes, you do. If the file size or image dimensions are bigger than the forum's maximum limit your profile picture won't show. You can crop pictures easily with paint: no extensive photoshop knowledge required. Just open your screenshot with paint, use the selection tools to cut out the section you want as your picture and crop it (or copy paste in a new file if you find that easier). Save it and try again, that should do the trick for you!

Photobucket has some really nice tools for editing pictures.  They're very easy to use and best of all...it's free!

You can't beat free stuffs!  :P

Silly me. So I've gone into photobucket and cropped my picture. (I think) But how do I get it into my actual profile picture?

You just need to go into your Forum profile and upload the picture from the Forum Profile Information section (on the left of the screen).

We see that image when someone moves a picture to another folder or location after the link has been posted.  Just try it again and make sure you don't move the image after linking it here.  Or...  you can use our Gallery.
