Playing for tips in Riverview?
« on: January 07, 2010, 12:34:51 PM »
Hey, not sure if this is the best place to post this, but does anyone know the best place to play for tips in Riverview? So far the Water-something Park has been okay but nowhere near as good as most places in Sunset Valley.

Yeah, I mentioned this yesterday that playing for tips in Riverview is terrible. I'm assuming the Riverview Theatre on the weekends is going to be the best spot, but it's still pales in comparison to Sunset Valley. And honestly, if you employ the "training" technique of playing compositions during the week, then you really only need to play for tips on the weekend. That's the only time when there's really good crowds anyway. It's quite possible to earn 6 figures in one day on the weekend.

In front of the theater is the best I've found.  And it's not that good.  Sometimes in front of the bookstore, too.

Pam, do you think it's just that there are fewer households in Riverview to account for the very small numbers of Sims that come out? Playing for tips in foreign locations is even worse.

I added two families of eight before posting this topic but haven't played since then. Maybe it makes a difference? I'm at 450 performances now so I generally get around 15,000 simoleons after playing all day in Riverview Park. To lessen the load I just queue up 8 performances before bed and after it. I also go into the basement because the game and fast forward run a lot faster down there, then I keep my mouse on the first queue item and my hand near the 4 button on the keyboard. I'll try the theatre, thanks

That's pretty unimpressive for 450 performances. With that total in Sunset Valley on a weekend in front of the theatre you'd probably rake in 3-4 times that. And don't forget another little tip for guitar players: if you have a mass of 10+ Sims, you'll inevitably get a few couples that will start dancing. Once that happens, cancel your tip playing and start again. The dancing will stop and everyone in the immediate area will focus their attention on you again.

Actually, I don't think there are fewer households in Riverview at all.  I think they just don't hang out at the theater or the park.  They seem to spread out a little more than Sunset Valley.  I've been able to meet plenty of people at the library and the art museum.  I don't recall the names of the familes, but I know there are at least 5 or 6 core families that always start out in Riverview.  And if it's like Sunset Valley, there are even more now that story progression has been updated and World Adventures is released.  If nothing else, go door to door and meet the people who live in town.  I really think you should give Riverview another trial run before you discount it for the nectar making challenge.  Go everywhere.  City Hall, bookstore, grocery store, etc.  There are different parks, too, that have folks hanging around, like the garden and playground spots (again, I can't recall the names).  I'll take another go at Riverview, too, when I wrap up this Perfectly Happy challenge.

Sweet. Thanks for the tips, Pam. I'll make sure my nectar making challenge couple socializes a good bit in Riverview before the party throwing component gets into full swing later.

If your guitarist is a Rock Star, you can also do an autograph signing session at the theater and then start playing for tips immediately afterward.  That's always fun.  And...  when I did the Couple's Centurian Challenge, my Rock Star would play a concert and his wife would come play for tips outside the theater at the same time.  She got an extra moodlet for hearing the music coming from the theater, there were more people because of the concert, and they were having better moods because of the music, too.

That is quite the strategy. I never would have thought of that myself! How do you, Metro, and Carl find all the little secrets, you know, the stuff you have to dig a little deeper for?

At least for me it's mostly playing a healthy amount of Sims 3 and discovering stuff on my own. But, I've learned a ton of stuff from the multitude of Carl's guides, the gardening and WA ones have ben especially helpful to me lately for challenge preparation. And the guitar composition exploit I actually found on another forum. It seems I broke the news here because no one knew about it. My guitar player in the Centurian Solo tourney just cleared about a million simoleans from one weekend of playing. But, the exploit just makes you want to shoot yourself in the head. The gameplay is truly awful after a few days of cueing up, and cueing up, and cueing up. So, once I pass up Holmes in the standings in that tourney, I think I'll have him switch to other skills to keep myself from going crazy.

Lol I like that last sentence. Just curious, not trying to be nosy and I sincerely apologize if it comes off that way, about how many hours of Sims 3 do you play in, say a week?

It varies week to week of course. I'd say on average 3-4 hours a day. If I get in the mood for some carnage then I'll take a few days off for some Diabloing. I'm a pretty efficient player though. I can probably get more done in those hours than most players because I almost always have a plan.

for sheer entertainment value, my favorite place in Riverview to play for tips is the cemetary while the ghosts are out.  not really sure how the numbers compare, tho'.

Whoa. Hold the phone. Are you saying ghosts will actually throw money at you in the cemetery while you're playing for tips?
