Tip: Don't make your monarch a drunkard!
« on: April 12, 2011, 08:31:23 PM »
My monarch is a drunkard.  It worked soooo well when he was merely a knight in another country.  However, now he's king and as we all know he has zero privacy and no place to keep a well stocked cask where others won't get at it and drain it dry.  Yes, he can carry around pitchers, and does.  Do you have any idea how hard it is to keep those rapid rabit npc's away from a pitcher once he's plunked it down on a plank?  You have to be super fast or they will drain the pitcher before you can blink.  It's not a horrible trait and really, it is doable but it sure is more annoying for a monarch.  My solution?  I put screens around his private cask so no one can get at them.  When he needs a drink I send him to that room, which is empty of all but the screens and the cask, go into buy, remove a screen off to the side, go back to live, have him get a drink and he automatically exits the room, go back into buy, replace the screen and done.  Pain in the profundis isn't it?  Oh, and putting pitchers in the larder?  They have been disappearing from there.
What?  Grannies can't play games?

Lol. That's funny, Joria. But, you have more patience than I do. I would never take the extra time for the screens. It doesn't bother me that much. Yeah, it's annoying, but I love the Drunkard trait. My current Monarch has it.

So how do you cope, Metro?  The screen thing is merely a wait until I get a better option plan, although he does carry around a bunch of jugs of brew just in case.  Sooner or later I'm going to need that room!

So how do you cope, Metro?

Like I said it just does not bother me that much. So, there is no coping. If I have to break out $50 to brew another batch for the Monarch because everyone is taking their share, so be it.

I made my Peteran priest a drunkard. It's even worse for her. The church goers have no sense of privacy. If it was like that in RL, I'd never go!

My family asked me today what happens if your hero and spouse are woo hooing and another Sim comes in?  You should have seen their faces when I said, "Oh, whoever it is just does whatever they came into the room for and unless it was they wanted to talk to someone they just carry on and then leave when done.  Except for the kids.  They either leave or go to bed and turn over, just like it was in RL in medieval times."  A true kodak moment and me without my camera.

The best sim to give the drunkard trait is the bard.  He has booze on tap and even a serving wench to supply it to him.

My worst choice so far is giving my spy the solitary trait.  She has to meet and mingle with the crowds to eavesdrop but gets the bad buff every time.

I don't mind drunkard. It's a very easily solved debuff, and one you don't have to wait out. My current plan of attack is to create all my heros as misanthropes to get the achievement. I'm playing only the monarch and wizard until I get the handful of heroes achievement, then create all the rest. Then do another quest with the monarch and send them all to the pit. Then create new ones with the drunkard and glutton traits to get that achievement. I'll have to then do a quest that requires killing off the monarch. In this way I'm hoping to have managed to get all those achievements into one ambition. I might even kill them all off again so I can give them traits that suit my theme.

I love the drunkard fatal flaw my monarch had that. Its so easy to make the debuff go away plus when I started the wine and ale casks where one of the first things I bought. I wanted to check out the drinks in medieval once i found out that it wouldn't be called nectar. I also love how fast they brew ale and wine it doesn't take 5 to 6 sim hours to make like nectar does lol. ;D
We are of peace, always but this is war.
We are of peace, always.
We'll help build a resistance. We have to fight.

When all you've ever loved has been stolen from you, sometimes all you have left is revenge.
For the truly wronged, satisfaction can be found in one of two places,  absolute forgiveness or mortal vindication. This is not a story about forgiveness. When deception cuts this deep, someone has to pay.

I gave my Spy Drunkard - since she always has an abundance of Blood Moss from gathering, every keg in the kingdom is overflowing with Blood Moss Mary's. ;D

As the ingrediants are basically free and always on hand, it's less annoying when other sims are helping themselves.  Though my Blacksmith is going to put a harpoon in the next sim that swipes a helping of Braised Whale!  >:(

I immediately put my food in my inventory or my larder. If a sim is trying to take some food, you won't be able to grab it. Go into buy mode and pick up the table and put it down again. Or something near that sim. They will reset, and then when you exit buymode they are no longer doing the action of taking your food, so you can then grab it and put it away :) Frustrating though, that we have to go to these lengths!

I haven't had any trouble. As long as King Ulysses gets his ale, everything's fine. Plus everyone else is too distracted with the music box to pay him any mind.  :)
