Prince or Princess?
« on: April 12, 2011, 10:14:11 AM »
Ok so I just finished the Heir to the Throne quest. This time around, I had my Monarch hope for a prince (think Henry VIII) but his wife ended up having a girl. I expected the King to be angry, but instead he accepted the girl. Why bother choosing which gender you want if the King is just going to like the baby either way? Needless to say I'm confused. No killing wives to get a prince?  :( I ended up sending the wife to the pit anyway so he could marry the princess from Effonmont. But still... what's the point?

I am thoroughly confused about both what you are talking about and the point of it.  ??? Do you want to elaborate?

Welcome to the forum LadyKatherine.  Yes, you really need to clarify for the readers exactly what you are asking, but the point is, the gender of the baby really makes no difference, since they can't carry on in the story.  That is just the way it goes and unfortunately, we can't pick and choose the gender like in sims3.  The children are just basically townies that never grow up, so to speak, lol.  So, if this is a gripe, then it really does not need its own thread, but if you have a question that you want someone to answer, please fix it so we know what you are asking.  Thanks.

I can understand what LadyKatherine means.  My monarch did that quest too though I chose the 'don't care' option.  I wondered what would happen if he chose a particular gender and got the wrong one.  Now I know that it wouldn't have mattered.  It is strange that the choice would be there if nothing came of it.  It would be more interesting, though probably not politically correct for these days, if the monarch threw a temper tantrum about not getting the son (presumably) that he wanted.

According to the Prima guide many choices you are given in a quest don't actually affect anything. Either choice will take you to the same next step.

That's very true from my experience playing the game. Some quest choices will slightly change the way you reach your goal (Though usually just by changing which NPC you talk to) but I find most of them simply change the flavour text that pops up during the quest or mean I have to craft an item with a different name.
