Hoots Mon Wee



A diagonal, tiny tartan in soft shades of blue and pink.  Designed more for materials than for wall-covering.



There is a coordinating pattern, with West Highland Terriers, in the Puppy Dog Patterns thread.


Hoots Mon Braw



This size of the pattern suits bed coverings and soft furnishings.




Hoots Mon Muckle



The largest size for when you want to make a statement.

A wee little pattern of red and blue.




McBraw



This tartan pattern reminds me of a car rug that we used to have that did double duty as a picnic blanket... ah happy days.

Many a mcmickle makes a mcmuckle.

Och Aye The Wee



A small, softly coloured tartan that looks good on nightwear.



Though only one colour channel, the pattern seems to take to recolouring well.

Och Aye The Braw



Braw doesn't mean medium (though that's what I've been using the word to imply - with apologies to the Scottish), Braw means fine or excellent, especially in terms of dress and appearance.

Ah Tha Noo Wee



At the wee end of the pattern scale, this tartan screams loudly to be worn by a lumberjack with a list.

Less startling on the eyes than the wee pattern.

I was put in this pattern as a child.  (Hmm, I bet you really wished to know that.)

In 1746 Tartan was banned.

This pattern has a mature, more sobering feel; reminiscent of school skirts, kilts and the inside of gaberdine macs.

When the law banning tartan was repealed in 1782, tartan was adopted by the Scottish as their symbolic National dress.

Apparently, it is a myth that red tartans were designed as 'battle tartans' because they wouldn't show the blood.

The difference between plaid and tartan is apparently just one of semantics.  In Scotland, a tartan blanket or tartan cloth, worn over the shoulder, is referred to as a plaid; whereas in North America, plaid is an just an interchangeable name for tartan.

Thanks, Gheez, for all of these lovely tartans!  I just stumbled onto this site, and I'm enjoying poking around the various downloads.  I would love to get the different sizes of the tartans, if they are available.  Since I am new, I hope I'm not going about this the wrong way.  Please let me know so that I can ask properly.  Thanks!

Gheez are you able to do the clan tartans?  Some are very famous, like the Stuart tartan the royals use, the Black Watch tartan and so on.  It would be wonderful to be able to use an authentic family tartan and make a plaidy!  These are totally awesome.

I created these using a Tartan pattern creator, then imported the resulting pattern into CAP. The large ones are so simple to create. The smaller ones a little more fiddly but not difficult at all.

I imagine that I could attempt to re-create a proper Clan Tartan... or possibly see if someone else has already created one and then credit them?  I can give it a go, if you'd like? Or PM you with the site address and instructions if you'd like to give it a go yourself and create your own special tartan?  The Tartan pattern creator is excellent, I 'wasted' so much time there  .
