WA and the skills
« on: January 06, 2010, 10:08:11 AM »
First off, I was not sure if this should go here or in the skills forum, so be free to move it if so :-)

But to the point.
With the photo and nectar making, I have noticed that if you complete the opportunites with these two when you're on vacation, it does not show as completed when you get home.

For instance with the nectar making, because of the adventure you get in France, I have made 3 potions of nectar and 1 home. But when I get home, it tells me I only have done one kind of nectar making.

And for the photo opportunity, the one with completing 5 sets of pictures, I have done 5 now but it only shows as if I completed 4.
I completed the last one in China where I took pictures for the holiday set. (Or what's the name?)

Anyway... just to hear if any of you have noticed this and/or if this is a bug or that the game just doesn't go together for what you do in the WA and what you do in the standard Sims 3 game.

Did you make three bottles using the same combination? Not sure if that has anything to do with it sorry, I've yet to try the nectar making skill but I think I read something about this in the nectar guide on the main site.

Nope as far as I can see to complete the opportunity I am very straight in making a new one every time. So no, no one is the same.

I have read in several places that it's a known bug that the "Mix Master" challenge (15 different nectar mixes) for Nectar making is lost when you travel, because the nectar recipe count resets.

However, I just had a Sim complete that challenge while she was in France.  She also used the challenge reward to predict the outcome of a fruit combination, and produced a batch of nectar based on the prediction.  That is, she made one more batch of nectar than the challenge requires, for a total of 16 recipes, while she was still in France.

I expected to lose this reward when she returned to Sunset Valley, but she retained her Mix Master title and her count of recipes.  So it seems that the bug doesn't occur universally.

You could try doing what I did and see if you can work around the bug that way.  I've also read that there are mods that fix this and other bugs, but personally I don't use mods.

(edited to fix a typo)

What about the photo skill? Would this be the same case?
But yes, I think that if you complete something fully that it somehow sticks when and if you travel. It's like it only happens with the new skill. For instance, I just got my last cooking recipe and the 100% in learn all. And when I got back from Egypt, it was still there. So I would think that the WA and the normal Sims have some problems with working together with the skills count etc. And that's why it messes up when you travel back and forth.

My Sim has met two of the challenges (the Photog and Architecture ones) and they seem to be staying.  I haven't been paying much attention to the counts for photography, though.

I think it depends on where you "end" the opportunity.
For example, I have done the holiday shoot one and I think it might not count because it was the last one I did, and in China where you need some of the photos.

No matter what, I am so much longing for a new patch to fix a bunch of stuff either with the World Adventures patch or the Sims 3 patch. Whichever of them is messing up the game.  :-[
