I just did that quest with no problem. I wonder what causes the problem for others.

EDIT: I chose the 'Burn!' option.

I did it with my Knight and ended up releasing Dire-Chin CHillas then Burdley said that they realised they had to deal with their own problems.  ;) I had to recruit three militia members first though but it could be anyone, I chose My Monarch, Wizard and some Guard.

I'm about to try again, this time with the King.

I hope I'm not losing QPs by abandoning Quests, but I have a bad feeling I am!  :(

If you don't mind cheating, you can easily regain Quest Points. How: turn on the testing cheats (I suppose you know how to, but if not, look here for the instructions), type in the cheat console 'setqp [amount]' without the quotation marks. I use this quite often, it gives you the chance to play various quests with the same Kingdom, before you run out of points. You can also possibly make all of your heroes level 10 before reaching the end.

I admit I'm tempted!  ;D

I'm still trying to get my head round the tactical and strategic processes ... I've never played an RPG before, just TS1, TS2 TS3 and SimCity [oh, and various iterations of MS Flight Sim].

That's useful information, ChronicR.  I'm very glad to have it.  In the Hard Worker Ambition I'm currently playing I had to give up on a quest that appeared to be bugged, and it really stung to have to sacrifice the Quest Points.  I don't like to use cheats, but I do think that it's not really a cheat if you're just using it to fix a game glitch.  If I ever get to the end of that Ambition, now I know how to give myself enough points for one more quest if I need it.  Thanks a lot.

You're welcome, Schip. :)
What I've just discovered that might be helpful for you, is that you can automatically advance in a bugged quest, or any other, if you have the testing cheats enabled. I didn't want to interpret it as if I discovered it myself, it was actually Carl's or Metro's discovery. Here is the instruction on how to advance in a quest, quoted from the Guide.

Quote
Control-clicking a Quest objective (the one next to the meter) will automatically advance the quest. This can be a good workaround if you are stuck due to an in-game bug. Reports of this happening are not very widespread, but if it happened this could get someone out of a jam!

I hope this works for you. :)

I had already completed a lot of the ambitions in my first kingdom (though of course  I got no credit for it as you have to actually choose it).  I'm currently doing the Imperial Domination ambition which is quite fun, but I'm seeing a lot of the same quests as last time popping up (not that I'm doing them), which is quite depressing.

Thanks again, ChronicR.  I wish I'd had that information before I gave up on the bugged quest, but at least I'll know what to do next time it happens, as it most likely will.

I know what people mean about the quests getting boring with each repetition, but to me the quests are a bit like your Sim's job - something they have to do but not what my real aim is.  My real aim with whatever quest is to (1) fulfill whatever Ambition I'm working on and (2) also fulfill whatever Achievements I'm aiming for.  I think the Achievements really add interest to the game.  For example, there is an Achievement in which you have 10 Misanthropes in the kingdom.  I have yet to get up my nerve to try that one.  But I did complete an achievement in which one of my Heroes had 25 bowls of gruel in his inventory!  Once I realized that I really didn't have to rush through completing the steps of the Quest and could do other things, it became a lot more interesting.

I am right now working on 5 gluttons and 5 drunkards achievement, but my monarch has a Legendary trait, so I'll have to either start a new game with New Beginnings, or don't continue the next ambition with her, which I do not want. She is level 10, you know.

I am trying to do the "No Quest for the Weary" Ambition using only the Queen. ie. No other Heroes and Buildings.

I have finished 5 quests so far and the Kingdom is still a small village with not many people. Quite a different feel from the previous "New Beginnings" where I had a dozen buildings and all sorts of unwanted people walking through.

I've done four Ambitions now. Finished New Beginnings at Plat., Imperial Domination at Gold (didn't realize at the time that the maps you buy open up two more territories *palm slap*), Fame at Plat., and No Quest for the Weary at Gold (I swear it didn't count three of my platinums!  ::) ).

I didn't quite clue into the fact that annexing territories reaps benefits until this last Ambition (*another palm to the forehead*). But I have to agree with Schipperke - I have found that I can repeat quests as part of their "job" while going for some of those Watcher achievements, too. Makes a lot of areas to think about during an Ambition, really. Their jobs, their quests and how far you can stretch them before beginning to lose progress, their career levels, and the achievements. I'm finding that aspect quite fun. :)

Also, I've been trying to learn more about the Edict system, but I'm failing horribly. LOL I end up tweaking the wrong way or something... losing some territory's loyalty...  LOL Oh well, lots of time to get that right, too.

I have found that with each Ambition I tend to concentrate on a different few heroes each time. I'm not doing the hard-working one yet for that very reason - I want to get all of them to Level 10 individually first before I tackle that baby. ;)

I've just started the Safe and Sound Ambition - only on quest 1 or 2 with it. I have an "unkempt" king - he roams the kingdom with green clouds behind him! LOL However, I find that if I bathe him, I can keep him topped up in the green with other things.  ;D I think he'll have to put up with bathing more often than he'd like.  ;)

Unfortunately you do lose QP if you abandon a quest but, as someone else mentioned, you could always enable testing cheats to give yourself the QP back.

Most of the quests are pretty self-explanatory if you read the description of each task carefully.  EA has put a lot of clues in the text.  Also, most tasks cause a marker to appear on the person or place you need to go to, which is very easy to spot in watcher view.

I have gotten stuck on a few of them either because they were bugged, in which case there was nothing to do but drop them and take the QP loss, or because I couldn't figure out the next step.  This forum is very helpful if you are stuck in the latter situation.  The other place where I've gotten help is on the EA Sims Medieval forum.

Just a quick report ... the squirrels of Burdley were finally eliminated by the King using chinchillas in the forest.
[anyone here remember Cluedo?  ;D]

No idea why the first 2 attempts didn't work, and I'm really trying to avoid tinkering with testingcheats.  I hate anything that digs deep into my Mac and the loaded software; I really do try to keep it squeaky clean!
