Share your Experience with Different Ambitions
« on: April 09, 2011, 01:28:33 PM »
Now that this game has been out for a few weeks, I'm wondering what Ambitions people have done and what experience you've had with them.

So far I've done No Quest for the Weary, which was quite easy (complete at least 16 quests platinum).  I'm stuck on Hard Workers - it was coming along well until I ran into a quest (New Gangs of Aarbyville, Assassinate version) that apparently is impossible to complete, and I stopped playing until I figure out what to do; it appears my only option is to cancel the quest and lose the QP but I hate to do that.

So, what Ambitions have you completed, and do you have any helpful  hints?

I have completed New Beginnings (platinum) and No Quest for the Weary (gold - I missed platinum by 1 quest :().
Thoughts and Prayers (platinum - which was easy but I had numerous bandits and everyone was being robbed toward the end).  I suggest maybe placing the Knight into play to help with the robberies but don't play a quest using the Knight or it will defeat the purpose of the Ambition.
I just started Imperial Domination last night and am glad I didn't chose Hard Workers after reading that you became stuck.  I hope you can figure it out.

I usually check the aspects of each quest to help decide which ones I want to accomplish especially if there is a red exclamation point there.  Then I know how hard I need to work to accomplish my goal.
I also make sure to annex both Advorton and Burdley early in the game.  Advorton reduces QP costs and Burdley reduces building RP costs.

No other helpful hints to give as I just take my time playing and enjoying the game.

I don't think it was the Ambition that caused the problem - it's the quest itself that seems bugged.  I was doing just fine with Hard Workers until I chose this quest to give my spy some experience.  There is a thread on the EA forum about that quest - apparently other people are having the same problem I did.

I am really getting bored with my second ambition. I completed New Beginnings at Platinum, it was great. But this one (Imperial Domination), is repeating the same quests all over again. I don't understand why I had to do the Missing Child quest three times so far.

I'm sorry to say that it happened to me too and that I don't remember the quest name but I got stuck too and I am 100% sure it is a bug because it stated clearly what I had to do next but I couldn't do it. I'm sorry I really can't give any details because it was one in the new beginnings and forgot about it since I am at my 3rd ambition now. I could give a tip that you should always keep a safe save before starting a new quest and having another save file in the quest you are playing. Sorry if I can't help you yet Schipperke but I think you should wait until somebody confirms the bug maybe you missed something.  :(

I've done New Beginnings (gold, only because I cancelled a few quests early, which I should not have done) and am currently on No Quest for the Weary (I'll probably get silver or gold, I screwed up a few times too much) I haven't done that quest, since I haven't annexed any of the other places, so I'm sorry that I can't help there.

I finished New Beginning and No Quest for the Weary both at platinum level.

For No Quest for the Weary I tried to minimize the number of 4QP quests I did to ensure that I was able to complete >16 quests with the 60QP available.  Even with 1 bugged quest that I had to drop and 1 quest completed at gold, I was easily able to complete something like 18 quests at platinum.

One strategy, which I didn't use but could be helpful if you have difficulty completing quests at platinum consistently, is to annex the territory that gives the benefit of decreasing quest costs by 1 QP as soon as you have the opportunity to do so.  I forget which territory it is, but I know there is info in the guide about it.  This will make your QP go even further.

The game does get pretty repetetive after a couple of ambitions.  There is a finite number of quests so there is really no way to avoid repeating them over and over again.  What I try to do to not get bored is use different heroes and approaches to see how they play out.  I also try to focus on different heroes to make sure I will see every class at maximum level eventually.  I think even that strategy will be tapped out long before I complete all the ambitions, though.  I would assume that EA is going to add content over time or else TSM will have a limited lifespan.

I agree. After some time, most of the players will finish all ambitions, and it would mean game over. That's why I like TS3 better.

The territory you're talking about is Advorton. (just looked it up) I didn't annex it, but I haven't annexed anything but Yacothia, and that was my accident

I think it is Ticktop which gives you more time before you fall behind on a quest section. I find that useful, I don't really understand the Domination Ambition but that is the one with my Level 10 Blacksmith now Monarch in.

If it's the ambition I think you're talking about (Imperial Domination?) Then all you need to do is annex as many territories as possible. Ally with them first, then you'll need to do a quest to annex them (for Yacothia, for example, it's the Proxy quest) I hope that helps

I haven't done it yet, though, so I don't know if it's easy, hard, or what.

Indeed. Even more useful is annexing your kingdom to Advorton which makes both your quests of 3QP respectively 4QP to cost -1QP.

The Squirrel Infestation in Burdley ... aaarrrggghhh.  So far I've tried with both the Spy and the Wizard.  In each case, after the challenge in the forest, there was no way of progressing the Quest.

Wizard needed to meditate - which she did for the best part of a day, but nothing cleared.
Spy needed to "Ask Militia for Advice" but no action was available, even when I found one of the Militia.

Anyone got any clues?
