Funny idea (in my opinion)
« on: January 04, 2010, 05:47:25 PM »
So I have a Sim on my desktop. I was getting kind of tired of waiting for her to find a good husband (everyone seemed taken), so I made a house filled with 3 bachelors who I thought would be good for her and I'd see how I liked playing them once I got her to move them in. She moved in the first guy, but he was no fun to play (he was a bit of a jerk), so she dumped him and he slept on the couch. Then I moved in his brother, Randal, by getting my main sim to marry him. I love him; he's an author and he's really cool. But the third roommate, who's unrelated to the two brothers, moved in with him (by my choice), and I had yet to decide what to do with him.

So, it started from not knowing where to let him sleep. I decided that my house had not yet been able to accommodate an upper floor and I was running out of horizontal room, but I didn't want to move. So I expanded the basement (which had previously just been a wine cellar) and I got the idea; what if I eventually changed his traits, found him a wife, and built him an entirely new house in the basement and just locked him in there? I'd build him a kitchen so he wouldn't get hungry and I'd build everything just like a regular house, except he could never get out of the basement. I'd also provide him with ambrosia materials every once in a while so he and his wife could live eternally through a multitude of generations of the family living upstairs.

What do you guys think of this idea?

That would be pretty funny.

Make sure that you give him the "Hates the Outdoors" trait so he never gets stir crazy, but outside of that, I can't imagine what kinds of problems you would come up with.

What would you do? Put them down there and delete the staircase?

If you do that, let me know. I would be interested to hear how that goes.

OMG...you're brutal!  LOL  :D :D  Would you just let them take care of themselves...like meeting their own needs, or would you control them once in awhile? What if they started reproducing??? (they might if they get bored enough down there)

LOL yes, that's brutal. At some point I'd be declining the ambrosia... be sure they get a good TV.

Haha, I'm not trying to be brutal. I'd just like to see what it'd be like to be able to control a family with another family in complete isolation.

I'm not going to delete the staircase because my upstairs family makes wine (their name is actually vintner, and I created the founder sim based on the idea that she'd make wine), so I need the basement, but I'm going to delete the door.

The Hates Outdoors trait doesn't seem to be working to keep away the stir crazy moodlet, but it's only -15 and I plan on making the place an awesome place to be. I hadn't thought about the whole reproducing thing. I'm not sure what I'd do. I'd probably keep the kid, but not feed it ambrosia so it'd eventually die off.

Actually, I was thinking about how I loved the way my founder looks, but hate the way her husband looks. Meanwhile, I like the way the basement dude looks, so I might get them to reproduce and have an illegitimate child. I'm a sucker for looks and I'm a cruel god, so I might have to do that. Another of my ideas is to keep the adopted child of the upstairs couple and get her married to the basement dude after having the illegitimate child and raising the illegitimate child as the child of the upstairs couple and keeping the illegitimate child as the righteous heir.

Wow, you have a lot planned. What happens if there's is a fire down there? Will you let them die?

I didn't really think of that... I'm making him a natural cook, so I don't expect there to be a fire, but...

I think I'll make his wife brave so she can handle it.

Make sure he has an easle so he can comfort himself by painting pictures of a world he'll never see with his own eyes.  It's the only kind thing to do.

You could make your above couple have kids and send them into the basement to be looked after by the underground couples! A live-under babysitter! :)

Sam, I actually thought of that. But I realized that they'd need to go to school, which would be a problem.

Anyways, I made my founder have a baby with the basement dude (Impossible... took them three tries.)

I kept all the other sims (the founder's husband, the basement dude's girlfriend, and the adopted child of the upstairs couple) out of the house for a good amount of time by sending them to tour the military base and then the science facility, but they ended up at home just before the illegitimate couple finished trying (thank god she got pregnant that time).

So everyone's relationship was seriously messed up at the time because everyone found the two cheating, and even an infinite amount of apologies didn't seem to be working, and everyone's needs kept failing because of all the social work being done. Anyways, everyone ended up on good terms with everyone else.

So my founder got pregnant and ended up having a baby, who I named Sarah, and, the moment she took Sarah home, I decided that that was the time. The basement dude got a glimpse of Sarah and ran to the basement for the last time. He went to sleep with his girlfriend and I deleted their door.

No problems have thus far been incurred, although no one's quite needed to eat yet. I built them a kitchen and a bathroom. Apparently, there are no negative moodlets to be had for being locked in a basement.

The only problem that I have thus far is that the basement dude's girlfriend was an NPC, and she's almost an elder at this point. Fortunately, I have it set on epic lifespan, so almost means about 35 days left, but my founder hasn't even started fishing for deathfish, and I suck at fishing (as a player), so I don't even know if I'll be able to get too many deathfish.

The kids don't have to go to school.  The worst that will happen is you won't be able to choose their traits as they age up.  Other than that, they can skip school just fine.

What problems do you have with fishing?

I didn't think of that. It still conflicts with my personal interests.

I'm just bad at it. I haven't spent too much time with it, but I dislike looking for fishing spots and doing all the stuff for bait... I just don't have the patience for it, I guess. I think, at one point, I'm going to just make one of my sims the designated "Fishing sim" who's going to get 10 of all of the fish and put it in my pond on my estate.

Speaking of which, I forgot to mention that I'm considering moving my family to the largest lot of land. I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do with my basement sims, but I'll probably wait until the illegitimate child is an elder or at least an adult before I go ahead and move them just because of their existence. I'll probably have to move them discreetly, so I'll let them have their first in a while and last in possibly ever day on the town until my main family goes to work/school or just to the park or something so I can move my basement couple into their new and final basement-house.

Haha, that would have been a great idea. Maybe I'll legally change his name when we move.
