Bard — Themes and their impact on Play/Poem value
« on: April 07, 2011, 10:27:27 AM »
I'm finishing up the Guide article on the Bard right now and will be shooting it to Carl later today. I would not call my testing exhaustive, but for the 3 Quests I played with the Bard, it would appear that a) all poems (regular and epic) sell for $35 in inventory, and all plays (comedic, tragic and legendary) sell for $95. b) It also seems to be the fact that no matter what combination of Themes you try, those values remain the same.

But, what I'm wondering is if the various Themes might have an impact on actual pay for Reciting a Poem or Performing a Play. I don't think so, but I was curious if anyone has found out that info. Thanks.

I've noticed that the pay for performing or reciting isn't always the same, but I don't know why it varies.  It might be a random variation, something to do with the theme or the play or poem, or something to do with the mood/focus of the audience.

I believe the main factor in determining pay is: size of audience and Bard level. It's too bad that all of the Themes don't play some factor into payout, but I'm pretty sure they don't. I guess EA just wanted to keep things simpler which is fine with me.

I don't know if it has been discussed before but I had to get a Money theme for a quest and I couldn't get it either asking for inspiration from the locals or getting inspiration myself by clicking on the ground.

That is until I went to the market square and gathered inspiration near the merchant stalls.

So the type of inspiration you get might be linked to the environment.  ???

I haven't noticed any difference between themes, but I've only played two quests with my bard so far. I have noticed that I seem to make more money now that my bard is a higher level than when I started, but there seems to be some other factor as well. I've recited the same poem twice and got paid a different amount so I don't think it has to do with the poem or play choice.

I second the idea that type of inspiration is linked to the environment and also who you ask. I usually get the "war" theme from the guards no matter where they are, and get the "food and drink" one most often while inside the tavern.
