Why Do People Think Arlo Bunch Is Ugly (Yep I Had To Ask)

Hair, eyebrows, eyelashes and clothes are all changeable in game, so it's no wonder game generate different features in different saved files. On the other hand, his nose and mouth will always bee too far from each other and made him ugly looking Sim. Poor Arlo, there were several tries to makeover him here .

As for why people think someone/something is ugly or pretty - in short, it's subjective impression based on some general rules (like symmetry of face features, gentle vs sharp features etc).

Arlo Bunch may possibly have a different hairstyle on occasion, but his face will always look the same.  Once a child is born, their genetics are set in stone.  This is how I create children who age up to look exactly like I want them to:  I create the sim as a young adult, and when I get them looking how I want, I age them down.  This works even if you age them down to a toddler.

And Arlo Bunch is ugly because of that hideous nose.  And for some reason, unfortunate noses seem to be very difficult to breed out of a gene pool.

They don't always look the same when aging. In fact, I don't think Arlo Bunch (or any toddler, or child sim aging to the next stage) has had the same hair and clothing style, ever. My last game, when Arlo aged to a teen, he had the same hair style as VJ Alvi did.

Clothing and hair are one thing. You can easily change those by taking a quick trip to the mirror/dresser. You cannot change genetics, as in the bone structure of Arlo's face.

I've also noticed how breeding out a nose is quite hard to do and very time-consuming. Kind of a bummer since a lot of Sims tend to have very prominent noses.

Personally, I think that EA has people who join forums to see what people are saying. I think they know about our Dynasty, and they definitely know about Pinstar's Legacy. They have the good looking male mate (Chris Steel) and the plain ugly mate (Arlo.) They'd also have a pretty girl mate (Agnes?) and an ugly girl mate (Erin Kennedy). From here, a player then can choose to have an ugly mate or a pretty mate. Also, uglacy's! Arlo's nose and face is dominant, right? Therefore, you can get an easy ugly sim for an uglacy (cheating required)!

Well, Seabody, EA doesn't case what people are doing with their games. They made Sims to gain profit, which they already do. Many people desired pets, seasons, magic, but was that included in the past 3 expansion packs? No. It's obvious that they know about Pinstar's Legacy challenge, but they don't read each story about Sims. The only site other than the official forums they check has to be the Sims wiki. Okay, this was off topic.

That's what I meant. Not the hair/clothes, but the face. Pre-made sims will always genetically be the same in everyones games.

Yes, I mean Frankenstein's monster and Alexandria was right - I wasn't sure if anyone would understand the reference to Mr. Ed (although I think they might show re-runs of it on TVLand) so that was what I meant to Google. 

In any case, he's butt ugly.  Perhaps the developers were getting punchy one day and decided to add him in as a joke...

I guess so. He comes nowhere near in appearance to his brother and sisters. I don't believe that he was born naturally, or wasn't edited in CAS afterwards. There can't be such a huge difference (Ethan, Darlene, Lisa vs. Arlo) in genetics in-game. The parents (Jack and Judy) are quite beautiful after a makeover and a fitness session, and their noses are decent looking.

Darlene is quite cute. She has that innocent face when she grows older. She's aged to the spitting image of Blair Wainright many times in my games.

Darlene has a similar style nose, but it's not as exaggerated as Arlo's nose is, and it actually looks good on her.  And there is a striking resemblance between her and Blair Wainwright.

But the sad fact of life (even virtual life) is that not everyone is beautiful.  There are beautiful people, there are good-looking people, there are average people and there are homely people.  And there are also the rare people to whom the gene pool was rather cruel to.  The ones that inspire complete strangers to look at them and gasp:  "Oh my GOD, what happened to you?" before they realize that they were born like that.

Arlo Bunch is just one of those people.

I wonder if EA did not have their morning cup of coffee when creating the Bunch Family. Ethan is suppose to be the good looking, perfect son, but is quite unattractive. Lisa is missing a fourth trait, (she was supposed to have the "charismatic" trait, but that can be fixed with "testingcheatsenabled true"), Darlene isn't unlucky at all, in fact, she's more absent-minded. The only thing that's actually seems to have effort, is the parents, as well as Arlo.

I dunno...to make someone as ultimately ugly as Arlo Bunch would almost seem to have been the result of a conscious effort lol.  Even when you randomize the face in CAS, they tend to look better.

I know this is an old topic, but in the lessons (you know the little guide, that tells you everything you need to know about Sims 3), they used Judy Bunch to send Arlo to Boarding school. When Arlo came home, this is how he aged up.



Not bad, in my opinion. He turned out to be nice looking, compared to the other times he's been aged up.
