Well, can't you (and everyone who is having such issues) uninstall it for some time before the problem is solved? Thus you will be able to continue your Challenge and play the game. :)

Chronic, I have uninstalled generations.  I still can't get my game to work so I can go back to playing Angie.

Sorry to say, but the only obvious solution is to reinstall every expansion and the base. Hm. Or wait till tomorrow, even the day after. :-\

Yeah there was someone on the forums who spoke with EA who said it could be up to 48 hours for the patch to go through correctly for PC users.  I just saw a suggestion somewhere about how to get my game to work but I won't post it here until after I've tried it.

EDIT:  I finally got my game to work.  For Mac users that have the future issue of not being able to load your launcher.  Uninstall Generations, Outdoor Living SP and Ambitions then load launcher to patch.  Reinstall everything and the game will finally load.

For PC users, a Sim Guru did post a manual patch but I have no idea whether it really works or not as I can't use a .exe file on my system.

I can confirm patching manually works. I had to resort to the updates folder in my direct2drive archive. I don't know if your DVD has an update folder, but I'd take a look to avoid the first download. After I installed that update, the Generations launcher wants to snag another 600mb patch. So don't get all excited like I did when you get to that step :P There are 2 updates to run, and I have no idea what #2 does.

I am puzzled by the problems people are having.  I don't know why, but my game is working just fine.  It arrived yesterday and right away there was a prompt for a patch, which I did.  I've just checked and it says it's up to date now.  Is there supposed to be a second update?  If so, my game doesn't seem to know about it.  Anyway, it's working fine (touch wood) so I guess for some reason I'm one of the lucky ones.  I hope everyone else's problems get sorted out soon.  It must be incredibly frustrating to not be able to get your game to work.

Yeah, so far so good for me as well. I have not played much at all aside from the little bit I've done to start my DecaDynasty story but I did a complete reinstall of the base game and all expansions. I did not get a prompt for an update when I created the file but I did get a prompt the 2nd time I played the file and the update went fine. My middle daughter has also created a new file and is already enjoying some of the new content.
