The quests you avoid like fire?
« on: April 04, 2011, 02:46:08 PM »
So I'm that far in the game that some quests or results of the quests, have made quite a negative impression on me.
The quest I completely ignore is the blacksmith's apprentice. The sole reason for that is, the apprentice itself is more trouble than it's worth. He/she constantly interrupts my blacksmith's work and is in my way when I want to work. Buying sleeping draughts and brewing "special" brews just for him/her is quite costly.

I know there are other quests, that just are not worth the trouble, so list a few so others know what they may be up against.

If memory serves me, someone suggested obtaining a second forge and anvil as a way to 'neutralize' the apprentice's interruptions.

I wonder if another option might be to send the apprentice to the pit. *shrugs*

I bought my apprentice her own forge and anvil. The Blacksmith shop is big enough I don't have any pathing issues at all.

Hm, never thought about buying another forge. To be fair I like the original setup. Alas killing the apprentice doesn't help either. Another one just pops up.

I played the Blacksmith in one Kingdom and he had no issues other then he was unkempt.   I kept making stuff over and over and I had done the Appentance Quest and had no problems.  But the idea to get another forge makes sense to me.

Well, as soon as you play our  monarch again you can have the apprentice sent into the pit - until it's a terminal experience for the poor soul. Alas - as soon as the old one is dead a new one will appear. So once you've got one you're stuck with him/her.

I won't be doing the Blacksmith's Apprentice quest again, for the reasons stated above.  The one time I did it, I tried buying another forge and anvil hoping that would keep the apprentice out of my way, but she always wanted to use the forge my sim was using so it wasn't a great help.

As for quests to avoid, I've posted elsewhere about the New Gangs of Aarbyville, Assassinate approach not working.  At the end of the quest your Monarch or Spy is supposed to duel the Pirate King/Queen, win, and the quest is finished - I think.  Except my King duelled with her 4 times, winning every time, and the quest step to duel never went away.  I haven't played the game since but it looks like my only option is to scrap the quest and lose the quest points.

I've been avoiding the Wedding quest - Elope option for the same reason.  All I had to do was to finish the quest was to have my knight marry her intended.  She met him at the forest and tried to propose to him at least 10 times - each time he turned her down even though their relationship meter was maxed out.  I sent her home to go to bed figuring I'd try again the next day and when she woke up their relationship meter was back down to acquaintance.  At that point I just quit the quest figuring it was bugged.  I didn't want to risk trying it again only to lose more QP.

Katluvr, I've done all three approaches, and Elope was actually quite easy. I just spent ages trying to consummate their marriage, until I figured you could invite someone to cuddle in bed, even if you were in the Peterean Monastery, and they've just come out of the road to the village shoppe.

I avoid the Golem quest as I can't stand my handsome blacksmith walking around in that Golem suit for the majority of the quest.  The Snordwich one bothers me too with all the customers laying on the ground moaning away the whole time.

I will never, ever do the quest again where you have to assassinate the monarch.   >:(

I haven't done it, but when I saw it, I though, "Maybe if I hated the monarch." But my most previous Monarch was awesome! I am currently "Between Ambitions", so to speak. I need to pick another!

I hate the "heir to the throne" quest. It takes forever and I got stuck several time. I do not see why we have to do it if I already have four kids!

Ticktop is one of the more valuable allies not only for their bonus but their trade .  They are your second trade partner in  getting mysterious metal fragments . Given you dont NEED to make the best weapons and armor in the game but i dont see the reason not to
