What are your favorite traits to play with on the sims 3?
« on: April 03, 2011, 07:25:41 PM »
And what are your favorite unlocked interactions with those traits? Also, what traits do you like to incorporate with your sim selves?

Personally: My favorite trait by far overall is definatly the childish trait. That is the number one trait I incorperate when I make myself as a sim. I'm pretty childish in real life, so that's why I love the trait so much. That's why I made my sim self in a house with Zelda Mae, Blair Wainright and Madison VanWatson, since I usually tend to become best friends with those three anyways. Also, I love playing with insane sims. Insane sims are pretty fun too. I love watching the sims go swimming in their tuxes and ball gowns, work out in thier swimsuits, go out in public in their PJ's (lol I do that in real life). Evil sims are fun too ;D and I think i have a whole new level of respect for neurotic sims.

As far as unlocked interactions: my favorite thing to do with unlocked interactions has to be trolling. I don't troll on forums in real life, but on sims, it's my favorite thing to do. I think Gunther Goth and Nick Alto have trolled on the forums 24 hours straight in my games, since they're autonamisly on their computers. Yes, grumpy and mean-spirited sims can troll too, not just Evil sims. I love the responses people give in the upper righthand corner. I think my favorite response was "I know exactly what I'm talking about. I have a Bachelor's Degree." One time, Nick got a response. "YOU TROLL!!!! I'm going to report you!" The only reason to play around with mean-spirited and grumpy sims, for me, is just for trolling purpouses.

Yes, the trolling aspect is hilarious!

A few of my favorite traits are insane, evil, klepto, childish, ambitious and over-emotional.

However, I enjoy playing through all of the traits (minus 2 or 3 of the pointless one). Just depends on what I'm trying to achieve, I guess.

Trolling is my favorite thing to do when playing the Alto and The Goth Family. Someone responded to Vita Alto "I'm gonna report you. Troll."

If I had to pick one favorite trait out of all of them, it would be Neat.  It's tough to beat one click house cleaning in my book.

A few of my other favorites are Neurotic, Charismatic, Friendly, and Ambitious.  I also use Artistic a lot (when I pick traits, which isn't often anymore), but I would call it more of a means to an end than I would a favorite.

Ambitious - You can get promoted faster.
Over-Emotional - You get a 25% mood boost for moodlets (and 25% mood decrease for negative ones.)
Workaholic - Work from home.
Bookworm too. I guess it's because I'm a bookworm myself :D - Praise fantastic book.
Natural Cook - Share cooking secrets.
Green thumb - Enthuse about garden.

For me it all depends on what I want my Sim to do. For instance I would never usually have the hates outdoors trait but for a writer it is a must.
I do like the insane trait but I wouldn't use it for every Sim I make it just seems to fit certain Sims.
I like the way some traits hold hidden skills. My fifth generation dynasty spouse was evil and the sixth, seventh and eighth generation have the ability to sneak, even though none of them have the evil trait.

I know you didn't ask but my least favorite trait is coward.

I am also a fan of the Neat trait, but my favorite would have to be either Workaholic or Natural Cook, because Workaholics don't get stressed as easily when I overwork them in Dynasties or so they can achieve their LTW, and Natural Cook because then they don't burn the house down (I'm not likely to notice a fire :P). My next favorite would be Ambitious, but that's sometimes not very good because they want to advance all the time.  :)

I haven't played them all. The trait I always have someone play with would have to be the family trait. It's always made life easier for me.

My most favorite trait is probably Kleptomaniac. The free stuff you steal makes a great start for any dynasty or legacy, but I totally hate the lifetime wish. Why? Because you can't sell the stolen items, otherwise the meter towards completing the lifetime wish will go down! :(

P.S. While doing a search on the forum, I found this rather old, but useful topic on this subject. Pam has answered in that thread too. :)

That hidden trait comes from the Thief branch of the Criminal Career, actually.  Like the "Salute" trait that you get from sims in the military and the fire related traits from firefighters, these traits can be passed down throughout the generations.

Yes, it's called simply 'Burglar'. The best thing is that it doesn't take up a trait slot, but appears to be a sixth 'bonus' trait. More on hidden traits here.

I love the friendship with one's vehicle that comes as a result of being a vehicle enthusiast.  I had a sim with that trait and also the loner trait, so his only two friends were his car and his girlfriend.   :D

I also LOVE the neurotic trait.  A quick positive buff from checking the sink?  I'll take it.  But the best is the freak out self-action.  Eight hours of positive buff plus it leaves me laughing hysterically every time I see it.

 ;D Traits are fun.

I don't know why Carl and Pam are so against the snob trait. It's really not that bad of a trait. Snobs can still be friendly. I'd rather have a snob than a mean spirited sim.

I love the friendship with one's vehicle that comes as a result of being a vehicle enthusiast.

They don't even have to be a vehicle enthusiast to develop a relationship with a vehicle.  They just have to use it regularly.  Vehicle Enthusiasts will develop that relationship faster.

This is one trait that had potential, that they just did absolutely nothing with.  It's like they just abandoned the whole idea after coming up with the name.  Vehicle enthusiasts should be able to wax their car to give it back that "new car smell" moodlet, and if their relationship gets high enough, they should be able to give their car a name.  Possibly even tinker with it to increase it's speed.

But instead, it's pretty much a wasted trait slot.
