Game crashing please help [fixed]
« on: April 03, 2011, 05:46:18 PM »
When I first got TS3 it worked fine but after awhile the game started crashing with no error messages or anything. I use a mac and so I googled it and there wasn't much info about fixing it. Some people said to turn off time machine, but it was already off when I checked. I need help! ??? ???

So I did some more googling, and some people also say that you need to delete some time machine backups but I don't know how to do that. >:( I am not a computer person. :'( :'(

I play on a Mac and being computer illiterate, I asked my husband (he has a degree in computer science). He said it's out of his expanse of knowledge too. Sorry I can't help but I wanted you to know I tried.

I would check to make sure your computer meets the system requirements for running TS3. That's the only advice I have. I will also say that I play on a laptop and I have to make sure the only program I'm running is TS3, otherwise the game is very choppy. Sorry I can't be of any real help.

Yes I use my laptop too, it's always very slow when I have other stuff running. thanks for trying to help. I'm pretty sure I have the system requirements, but I don't know where to find all that info. The only thing i'm pretty sure I have is Snow leopard.

OK, i'm not sure if this clears anything up, but it seems like it only started crashing after the LN patch. At first not a lot, but it's gotten worse.

Me too. If you open up the Task Manager while running The Sims 3, the process takes up a huge CPU space, and all other programs act choppy. I try to turn off my antivirus too, when I'm playing Sims. It helps, indeed.

Let me do a search. I'll be back in a couple of minutes.

EDIT: Here's what I've come up with. I couldn't express it otherwise, so I'll quote it.

Quote
The easiest is the "Force Quit" option. Holding down the option+command+escape keys will display open applications where you can choose them and force quit them (end process)

Also you can open "Activity Monitor" which is just like a task manager too. It's in the Utility folder within the Applications folder. You can end all sorts of running items there.

Also- Look under System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items
Some applications, when installed, like to put themselves there to start up whenever you log in to your Mac. You can delete them from the list here.

Thanks to Yahoo! Answers for this.

You're welcome. I tried to do my best. Maybe there is an issue I'm not aware of.

Well, it didn't make a difference, but I did notice when it crashes. :-\ It seems that it crashes a little a bit after I start, when i'm switching back and forth between sims. It freezes for a few seconds, but when its frozen the z's over sleeping sims' heads are still moving, but the time isn't moving along. If that clears anything up then that's great! ;D

My game on my Mac laptop does the freezing for a few seconds thing too when I switch between Sims or Map view. I think basically it's an issue of the laptop having just enough processing power (no idea what the Computer speak word is) to run the game. My advice would be to lower your graphics (in game under Options) and the High Detail Lots number. My game has most things turned to low except if they bug me. For example, I have my Texture and Sim Details at the highest settings. I make sure to always pause the game before switching between Sims and in/out of Map view. My game still does the freezing thing but it's not as bad as it used to be. Also, I don't have anything running in the background when I'm playing TS3, not even the internet. Everything is off (except Finder, of course).

OK, that could be it, cause a lot of my setting are on high I believe, once I found out that the mirrors could actually reflect like a real mirror I went a little overboard. ;) I'll go lower some now.
