How to marry?
« on: January 03, 2010, 10:55:08 AM »
Actually, I have no idea about this.
Is good relationship a must before marrying?
Or have to do something before? ???
Now I realize playing the Sims 3 on Mac is playing the game of installation and uninstallation...

Absolutely. Just like in real life you wouldn't meet someone for the first time and then ask them if they would marry you 5 minutes later. Well, maybe in a arranged marriage society that would be okay, but it's not the norm. "Hi, Swamachi, I jumped off of the tree of manhood, will you marry me? There's the Shaman over there."

Getting the Propose social is a progression in the game of increasing degrees of romantic socials you'll have available. As soon as you see a new one, get on it and keep workin' it. And don't just make booty calls the primary go to plan, if you know what I mean. Relationships thrive on other kinds of socials as well — like talking about things they're obviously interested in.

In Sims 1, I went to both houses and maxed out the relationships. They were both madly in love with each other, yet they refused to marry. Sometimes they said they DIDN'T love the other person even if the bars were full and other times they said they were in a bad mood. I remember I only managed to get Sims married once, but i thought they would say no, so I put on super speed and the wedding was over before I realised it had begun. Very disappointing.

Many people are saying they only need a day or two to marry someone. I am perfectly happy with that. I think it would make it easier for the Sim to continue fullfilling wishes and lifetime wishes. I really want my Sims game to work!!! Aaaargh!

Yes, otherwise your Sim doesn't even get the option of marriage. If it is quite high, you can get rejected. It happens to my Sims all the time.

Incidentally, a strange bug with this is that you never can declare another sim a boyfriend/girlfriend/BFF/wife/husband/fiancé/fiancée if that sim has been any of those ever before. I don't know if it happens to everybody, but it has happened to myself and others on other forums at least and it seemed to come with WA and the latest patch combined.

Was an outrage on a gamespot forum a while back, but you can still have romantic interactions and ask that sim to move in with you (as a friend), so I'll survive until EA fixes it in a patch. :)
Manbearpig simply wants to get you. I'm super cereal. - Al Gore :)

I noticed that same thing, too.  My Sim broke up with her boyfriend and the option to ask to go steady never came up again.

I know the hopeless romantic trait helps. When you click on the sim, then click special, then hopeless romantic you can first: 1.Confess Atraction 2. Propose going steady 3. Propose marriage 4. Private Wedding.

You can do all of that without anything in between and without working up to it?  It sounds like the special interaction with Family Oriented where you can go straight to Try for Baby.  The only time one of my Sims had trouble getting married was with Sam Sekemoto.  He's insane and kept turning down the marriage proposal.  It took about 4 tries before he accepted.

You can do it anytime but you have to do it in that order. It helps a lot when you want to get married because when you have hopeless romantic, the sim that you are trying to marry will almost always say yes. It helps to have the sim you want to be married to be a good friend or best friend first. That way they will pretty much say yes to it, even if you do them one after another.
