Before, it used to automatically be in the room, and now it's just outside - any help/explenation? Thanks (I've got no CC, and only Ambitions expansion pack) Thanks

It has done that sometimes when I wanted to make a picture of a sim normally I can zoom in to see the house, so That might work for you to. ;D

I've had that happen to me quite often. I would try positioning your game camera inside the house where your still life subject is. I've found that this works for me. I actually take it one step further and, with the game paused, set up my camera right where I wanted the picture to be, then un-pause the game and wait for the still life box to appear.
You've played too much TS3 when ... your 13 month old's babble sounds like Simlish!

After the frame appears, you can pause the game and adjust the camera.  I'll echo what some have said by stating that zooming with the scroll wheel (the "z" key does this, too, if I'm not mistaken) and adjusting the pitch of the camera can help, too.  And you can use the arrow keys or hold the right mouse key down to "walk" the camera closer to the subject, and in the process the camera will pass through any walls that might be in the way.
